Today was a big day in Adrian’s life, it was the day his father would announce to everyone that he, Adrian Grant, was the heir. Something about this made Adrian nervous. Maybe it was because he was afraid he wouldn’t be as great a king as his father, rabbits looked up to his father and Adrian was afraid they would do the same to him. Or that he would let his father down along with many others like Aliegha who kept telling him that he would be fine and that he had this. He only smiled and shook his head when she said that. He wanted to believe her so much.
After a while, Adrian pushed his mind away from these thoughts and focused on getting ready for the big day. He walked over to his bed where the servants had laid out a navy-blue shirt with gold buttons, a nice pair of pants, and a long red cape to go with it. He sighed before taking the clothes up and going into the dressing room.
He had just finished dressing when he heard a knock on his door. “Come in,” he said.
The door slowly opened to reveal Aleigha’s brother Leo along with Captain Massie. Both bucks were dressed in fine clothes and looked ready for the ceremony.
“Are we interrupting you, Adrian? We can leave if you like,” Massie said, bowing his head politely.
Adrian looked up at Massie and shook his head. “Y’all are fine,” he said almost in a whisper.
Massie nodded as a big grin started to take over his face, along with Leo’s. Massie then spoke again, this time with a happy tone to his voice. “Good, I do believe that you need to come see something. It will brighten your mood before the ceremony.” Massie’s grin grew.
Adrian looked at Leo with confusion, hoping Leo might explain something but he didn’t, instead he gave Adrian a wink. Adrian looked back to Massie and Massie gestured for him to follow as he left the room.
Adrian followed Massie, and Leo was right behind him. Adrian wondered what they were so happy about. Then Adrian froze.
Aliegha was standing there in a beautiful elegant ballgown. The dress was a powdery blue with purple bell sleeves, intricate embroider went all around the hem and train of the dress. The train was so long that Abbi, Gabriella, and Cleo had to hold it up, but that wasn’t all. The dress had a vibrant purple ribbon tied around the waist, with a big bow at the back. Aliegha also had a bow tied around one ear, and it made her look even prettier. He then noticed the necklace around her neck, the one that she always wore.
Adrian walked over to her, admiring how beautiful she was. She smiled at him and her smile seemed to fill the whole castle with sunshine and joy. Adrian wanted to tell her that she looked gorgeous but he couldn’t seem to find the words, because even gorgeous did not seem to do her justice. She was so much more than gorgeous, she was beyond gorgeous, beyond any word he knew of. So instead of saying anything, he gazed at her trying to find a way to say all that he was thinking.
Aliegha then said, “What do you think? Do I look ridiculous?”
Adrian looked up into her grey-blue eyes that were filled with life and hope. He offered his hand to her as he said, “No, you look like a true queen. But not even that compliment does your beauty justice, for you are beyond beautiful, beyond any words from my mortal tongue.”
Aleigha smiled as she took his hand, he then walked her down her to the hall where the ceremony was to be held.
Adrian did better than he thought he would at the ceremony, but it wasn’t over yet there was still food to be eaten and dancing to be done, and long boring speeches to endure and give. He had to give one at the end of the night, and he wasn’t looking forward to that, but he knew he would do just fine. He looked over at Aleigha who was standing beside him, he then reached for her hand and squeezed it. She looked over at him with a beautiful smile on her face. She then squeezed his hand back.
Adrian turned his head away from her as the sounds of music started and the dancing began. He thought about asking Aliegha if she would like to dance but he was nervous, what if she said no. But he knew he couldn’t live like this forever, especially when he wanted Aliegha to be more than just a friend. He turned toward her and said, “Aliegha.”
She turned her head towards him and her eyes automatically bored into his. He took a deep breath before saying, “Would you like to dance with me?” He regretted the question after he said it, afraid she would say no. For all he knew, Aliegha might only like him as a friend and nothing more, but he hoped with all his heart that that wasn’t the case.
I love this chapter so much! You did a great job at describing everyone's feelings, and the surroundings, and I loved Massie! And the part about Aliegha's dress. And I loved how you showed Adrian's fear at becoming king one day. He'll be a great king if he feels that way.
Poor Aleigha will be dancing with a super long train. XD I'd love if you could draw her!!!
