Adrian smiled as loud happy screams met his ears. Kei, Abbi, Gabriella, Cleo, Nicholas, Aliegha, and himself were all sliding across the frozen surface of lake Merle. They were having so much fun. This was probably the most fun Adrian had had in a while.

He looked over at Aliegha, who looked gorgeous as the sunlight reflected off her fur bringing out her beautiful colors. For a moment, she looked like she was shining. She looked over and saw him and flashed him a big, beautiful smile that he couldn’t describe. Her beauty was indescribable. He watched as she slid toward him, a bigger smile crossing her face.

“Come on, Adrian,” she said, her voice beautiful and quiet as she waved him over.

Adrian smiled back at her, then said, “I’m coming!” He slid towards her. He almost lost his balance and had to wave his arms wildly to keep from losing his balance. He then leaned forward, and Aliegha caught him and held him up, laughing hard. Her laughter made him laugh.

He then heard her say, “Bucks are so clumsy.” Then she laughed some more.

Adrian stood up and said, “Hey…” but before he could say anything else or do anything else, Aliegha started running across the ice. She then called over her shoulder, “Adrian Grant, catch me if you can!”

Adrian shook his head as he ran after her on the slick ice. He could hear Aliegha still laughing or rather giggling now. When he caught up to her, he grabbed her arm and pulled her toward him as he started tickling her. She laughed and screamed as she tried to wiggle free. “Stop it. Adrian, please stop. I can’t breathe,” she gasped out through laughter.

Adrian didn’t listen to her; instead, he tickled her more. “I said stop it,” Aliegha gasped out as she laughed even harder. Then she managed to break free from him. She slid a little ways away and looked back at him with a merry spark in her eyes. She then shook her head as she said, “You’re a mess.” She then looked down.

Adrian looked at her as he grinned. “What can I say I’m a buck. But I know I’m a mess, I get in trouble a lot, but its who I am.”

“I see,” Aliegha said as she ran off again.

“Why do you keep doing this?” He said, laughing as he ran after her. He heard something like a distant popping crack. He stopped and looked down at the ice under him. Like a flash of lightning, cracks in the ice spread around him. First just tiny lines and then large cracks which made the ice unstable. He tried to move, but before he could do anything, the ice gave way under him. He fell through the ice and into the bitter icy waters below.

He yelled out as the chilling water hit him and shocked the air from his lungs. He grasped at the floating chunks of ice, trying to find something to hang onto, but they shredded his hands as if they were glass. The water stung him with its chill like a thousand bees, and the ice tore at his fur and skin. The beautiful happiness of moments before was replaced with pure undeniable terror. Soon he couldn’t feel anything as his body began to go numb as the freezing water seeped into his bones.

Aliegha ran toward him with a look of horror on her face. She dropped to the ice and crawled toward him, cautiously as she reached out toward him. He didn’t understand his brain was foggy, and he was so cold he couldn’t think.

“Take my hand, Adrian,” she said.

Adrian reached his hand out toward her and grabbed it. But he couldn’t feel his fingers, and soon he lost his grip, Aliegha yelled. The ice started breaking at the edges of the hole, and Aliegha had to move back to keep from falling in. Adrian waved his arms, trying to stay afloat, his panic but a dull thought at the back of his mind. Then he went under. He tried to hold his breath, he tried to keep swimming, but it was impossible.

He sunk then as he looked up toward the world above. He watched as the ice came back together over the hole. This was the end, he thought as he lost his breath and drifted to the bottom of lake Merle.
