Chapter 15:

The next day Sandy paced back and forth in his room. How could he tell her and what if she said no? He didn’t know how to tell her; he was so nervous. He didn’t know why? It was just Jenny. Maybe it was because she is so pretty, and he doesn’t deserve her. He grabbed his ears and pulled them down. He then heard a knock on the door, was it her? He then heard a voice.

“Let me in Goldilocks.” It was Amos, thankfully. He walked over and opened the door, he smiled then frowned Jenny was with him. She was so pretty, like always.

“Are you okay?” Amos asked.

Sandy tried to answer him, but at first nothing would come out. So, he nodded his head.

“Are ye sure? That ye are okay, ye are acting weird,” Amos said, with a frown.

Still no words would come so Sandy gave him a thumbs up, this was so embarrassing.

“Well then I’m going to go and give the prisoner some food, so I will see y’all later,” As he gave Jenny a hug then patted Sandy on the shoulder as he said, “Good luck.” Then Amos left the room. Left him alone with Jenny.

“Would ye like to go for a walk with me?” Jenny asked.

He took a deep breath and this time the words did come, “I would love to.”

They walked outside, it was quiet for a long time and then he grabbed her hand.

She looked at him, “Are ye okay Sandy?”

He smiled at her as he said, “There is something that I have to tell ye.” Sandy dropped to one knee and took her hands in his and looked up into her bright violet eyes. “I donnae have anything to give ye, nay gold or silver, nae even a house, but I will work every day and every night until I get the money. Because I want to live the rest of my life with ye! I love ye, and I want to have wee bairns* running around all over the moor. I love ye with all my heart and more and I keen that I donnae have anything to give ye, but I do have me love and that is worth more than silver. I want ye to be me wife Jenny, will ye have me?”

Jenny fell into his arms, tears running down her face. “Of course,” she sobbed into his shoulder as she added, “And ye are me silver.”

They hugged for a long moment and then they broke the hug and looked at each other. They stood smiling at each other and then Jenny hugged him again and sandy picked her up and spun her around as joy filled his heart. He then put her down and kissed her gently on the forehead. She did the same as they embraced once more.

“Wait until we tell Amos,” Jenny said, happiness in her voice. “And my aunt and cousin, and Angus and Duncan when we get them out. Where will wee live and how many bairns will we have?”

Sandy smiled at her, “I will live anywhere but here, and I think we should have about ten bairns and I cannae wait to surprise everyone!”

“I wonder what Amos’s face will look like?” Jenny said as they started laughing and hugged one last time.
