I tend to write fast. So here is chapter 2
Fleck thought back on the events of the last week.
..................
"Fleck?" Helmer asked.
"Yes?" Fleck sprinted up, late for muster again.
"Can you stay here while we go on our mission? I need someone to keep an eye on the farm." Helmer said, staring at Fleck. "I heard you have some experience?"
"Aye." Fleck said, looking down. There had to be a reason he couldn't go with the Lord Captain. He was the newest member of the king's arm, after all.
The rest of the King's Arm had left after muster, ,leaving Fleck to walk through the forest. After several hours of walking, he heard a snap of a twig. Drawing his sword, Fleck looked nervously around him.
A large wolf charged toward him.
...............
Fleck ignored the memory and focused on looking out over the edge of the plateau. It was dark and a few small stars speckled the sky. It had been thirty minutes now since Pacer had asked Fleck to train him.
Me? Fleck wondered, gazing out at the sky.
The slight cloud of mist in front of him cleared, and Fleck saw the flaming ruin of the Great Wood.
"I could have prevented this." Fleck whispered. "It's my fault."
"No. It's my fault." Fleck turned quickly. Helmer stood in the moonlight several paces from Fleck.
"I'm sorry for discouraging you by not letting you come." Helmer said, looking straight at Fleck.
"I-It's alright." Fleck stuttered, turning again to the great wood.
"You once told me." Helmer said, walking forward to stand by Fleck. "Not to let fear be my master." Helmer chuckled at the memory, then knocked Fleck to the ground in a harsh kick.
"Were you afraid of that?" Helmer asked.
"No." Fleck sighed. Helmer then kicked dirt into Fleck's eyes.
"I get it!" Fleck shouted, slowly standing.
"Do you?" Helmer asked, raising an eyebrow at Fleck.
"I guess not." Fleck said, sighing, and kicked dirt over the cliff's edge.
