I don’t know about y’all, but I was definitely surprised by the introduction of Chelmsford Citadel and Lord Felson; was not expecting another Citadel or lord this late in the game. Of course, that now means we have a citadel lord for each member of the Five (besides Morbin):
*Victor-Gern
*Morgan-Shelt
*Felson-Vardon
*Ronan-whoever the last bird is.
S. D. Smith sure likes names that end with n, doesn’t he?
Another interesting mention was of the “legendary” wolf king Farlock. I’m kind of curious as to whether he’ll have any role to play going forward. Might he show up to lead Morbin’s wolves in Ember’s End? Or do y’all think he’ll just be another referenced character that will keep us wondering for who knows how long?
Welp, how’s that for sad: both Felson and Farlock are first mentioned in First Fowler, and they both died in Ember’s End. And both with little or no dialogue, I might add...
Okay, I must confess: I still have yet to read The First Fowler because I've been putting it off until I finish Mere Christianity. I know, I'm a horrible 'Ember fan. 😂
I think my mom has taken my ff pre order and hid it until christmas.
Thanks for nothing Mom.
I am confused, I got into the fowler discussion and I haven't read the book. idk how did I get on here???
I saw the New Star Wars last night. It is AWESOME!!! Really intense!!!
@Silverskies Yeah, I suppose it always did seem like there were more, but Ember Rising really had me thinking it was nailed down to Blackstone, Cloud Mountain, Halfwind, Harbone, Kingston, and Vandalia, especially with Emma's speech after the Battle for First Warren. Of course, you could also count the Citadel of Dreams and District 7, but they were kind of off on their own until Ember Rising. I wonder what Lord Felson will be like; so far he seems to be the total opposite of Lord Ronan, who's the other citadel lord we've seen/heard pretty much nothing of.
I'm honestly not sure about Farlock; at this point I feel like introducing him in Ember's End might be a bit pointless, except to pile on what the Cause has to deal with in the final installment. I mean, unless Captain Blenk is just totally incapable of controlling Morbin's wolves now that Redeye and Flox are both dead, bringing in another wolf seems like a bit of a moot point. Odds are whoever leads the wolves in Ember's End is going to die just like those two, and it's really just a question of whether Picket's going to let someone else do them in for a change. Granted, Blenk doesn't have much more development than Flox or even Redeye did, but at least he's been around since Ember Falls.
I'd say Farlock is probably best saved for more "A Green Ember Story" or other prequel/side novels. Might be an interesting foe if S. D. Smith ever gets around to doing a "Rise and Fall of King Jupiter the Great" novel/series or one set in that era. Honestly, now that I'm thinking about it, I kind of wish it was QUEEN Farlock.
I wasn’t too surprised by the new citadel and new lord additions, I’ve always suspected that there were more citadels out there that weren’t mentioned in the main series. But the mention of the legendary King Farlock did surprise me and now I have a million theories and ideas shooting around my brain. XD I hope we get to see him in Ember’s End, I think that it would be really cool.
Yeah, that citadel addition was a surprise. xD I suspect S. D. Smith can't help it, though; I know I would find it hard to not throw in new characters/locations when writing a sequel--even if technically the events in the sequel had already occurred.
I too am curious about Farlock. I really hope S. D. Smith gives us more on him! I rather like the wolf characters; it would be fun to have a wolf legend show up to join the fight.
