Okay so, here’s the last chapter, I worked really hard on it. I will hopefully post a chapter in my new fanfic next week, maybe…lol…if I ever get around to writing the first chapter and don’t just read in my new book like a lazy bottom…hahaha….
Anyway, hope y’all like it!
Oh, and by the way, I put a quote in here from the BBC Robin Hood series, whoever guesses it first gets to choose a character from the fanfic for me to draw, doing something…
P.S. @The Silent Warrior please let someone else get it cause I know you already know it…😉…
Jaidie
Rain pulled on his ears as Hazel and Carter ran by screaming and laughing. Rain let go of his ears and looked down at the papers in front of him. He looked up to see Jed trying to help Noah read something. Rain looked down at his own schoolwork and sighed, then groaned as Hazel and Carter passed by again. They were still laughing and making a ruckus as they bumped into chairs spilling paper all over the floor.
Jana came out of the kitchen her hands on her hips. Carter stopped running; Jana set her jaw. “What are you doing in here?”
Hazel smiled. “Playing.”
Jana huffed and looked at Carter. “And I thought you were the responsible one.”
Carter smiled nervously. “I am, but Hazel wouldn’t do her schoolwork she had too much energy so I said I’d play with her to get her energy out. I was only trying to help.”
Jana sighed. “Well, now you’ve played. Hazel clean up this mess.”
Hazel scowled. “Why do I have to clean it all up, Carter made it too!”
Jana rolled her eyes. “Because Carter has to go get some firewood for the oven that is if any of you want cake.”
“Oh yes! Yes, I like cake!” Hazel said, sitting down and picking up her pencil to start working on her math problems.
Jana cleared her throat. “I think you're forgetting something.”
Hazel looked at her. “What?”
Jana rolled her eyes again. “Your mess. Clean up your mess,” Jana said as she went back to the kitchen and Carter went outside to cut the firewood.
Hazel stuck her tongue out then slid out of her chair and began throwing papers all over Rain’s homework.
“Hey,” he said scowling at her.
She looked up and giggled. “Sorry.” Hazel stood and moved the papers off Rain’s schoolwork.
Jana came back with two small cups of tea, blue-colored tea. Rain gagged as she laid a cup in front of him. “How long will I have to drink this gross stuff?”
Jana set the other cup in front of Jed. “Until your arm heals.”
“My arm is healed, see,” Rain said moving his arm in a circular motion.
Jana huffed. “Well, the doctor said two weeks so suck it up and drink it.”
Rain sniffed the tea and gagged. “I shouldn’t have to drink this gross stuff, it’s my birthday.”
“Oh, come on Rain, you eat true blue in lots of things,” Jana said.
“Yeah, lots of good things, like cake and cookies and muffins, not tea.” Rain scrunched his nose.
“Just drink it,” Jana said as she walked back to the kitchen.
Jed took a sip of his tea and looked at Rain as he said, “Oh, come on Rain, it isn’t that bad, just imagine it’s something else.”
Hazel jumped up. “Like hot chocolate.”
Rain looked down at the tea and mumbled, “But it isn’t hot chocolate, it’s tea.”
The door opened and Carter came in his arms full of fresh wood. “Hey Rain, your Ma and Bobbe are almost here.”
Rain smiled. “Really?”
Carter nodded. “Aye.” Then he walked into the kitchen.
Rain pushed his cup away and stood. “What ya doing Rain? You didn’t drink your tea,” Hazel said smiling.
Rain rolled his eyes. “Oh, shut up Hazel.”
Just then the door opened and Momma and Bobbe came in both holding wrapped boxes. Momma set her boxes down and hugged Rain. “Happy thirteenth birthday Rain, you’re growing up so fast.”
Rain broke away from the hug and wiped the tears from Momma’s face. “Don’t cry, Momma.”
Momma shook her head. “I wasn’t crying, just smiling on the wrong side of my face.”
Noah stood up and signed something. Momma smiled, hugged him, and whispered something in his ear. Noah nodded and stepped back. Rain smiled at his Momma, who learned how to sign just so she could talk to Noah more.
Rain then went over to Bobbe who smiled wide. “Hello, Rainy!”
Rain looked at the boxes in Bobbe’s arms. “Are all those for me?”
Bobbe smiled even wider as he set the boxes down. “Of course, they’re for ye its yer thirteenth birthday.”
Rain smiled. “Oh, Bobbe, come to my room I have something for you.” Rain grabbed Bobbe’s arm and pulled him down the small hall.
“Something for me? But its yer birthday lad, yer supposed to get stuff not give stuff.”
Rain smiled wider. “Well, you know what they say, it’s better to give than to receive.”
Bobbe laughed as they reached the door Rain opened it and pulled Bobbe inside. Rain walked over to his desk carefully, trying not to hit his foot on the three bunk beds, and picked up a small sketchbook and looked at the drawing. It wasn’t great but it wasn’t that bad either. He had drawn it last night; it was a drawing of him and Bobbe standing side by side. At the bottom of the page, it said, Unlikely Friends.
He handed it to Bobbe. “It's not that great but I figured maybe you could teach me how to get better.”
Bobbe looked at it, tears welling up in his eyes. “Oh Rainy, this is beautiful! Of course, I’ll help ye, I would do anything for me best friend,” Bobbe said putting an arm around Rain’s neck. “Now let’s go get some of that cake ye sister worked so hard on.”
Rain nodded and walked out of the room beside his very Unlikely Friend.
Oh, how delightful! The ending was superb, Jaidie!
