Hey guys, here is, major plot twist ahead, hope you guys like it!!!!
Rain didn’t talk much after he found out about his father’s death, he was too shocked to do anything. Most days he lay on his bed that Bobbe had given him. Bobbe brought food to him, but Rain wasn’t hungry. He just laid on the bed staring at the ceiling thinking dead. His father was dead. He would never get to see him again, he had only wanted to see his father one last time, just one time. But no, he would never get to see him again, not even for a moment, he was gone.
Tears filled Rain’s eyes and ran down his already damp cheeks. He took off his glasses and laid them beside him as he wiped the tears from his swollen eyes. Rain wondered if it would have been better to have just stayed home, then he would have just lived life without knowing his father was dead. But at the same time, he was glad he had come here, here he had a friend in Bobbe.
Rain hadn’t meant for Bobbe to be a real friend, he had just agreed to be Bobbe’s friend because he wanted to find his father, but now that his father was dead Bobbe really was like a friend to him.
Bobbe brought him food and water, he talked to him about his father’s death and it helped to talk to someone about it even if Bobbe was half crazy. Rain didn’t care, he liked Bobbe. They really had become unlikely friends, but one day that all changed.
Rain got out of bed for the first time in a week, he was still sad over his father’s death, but he needed fresh air. He walked into the living room where Bobbe stood rearranging his pictures, which still hung crooked. Bobbe smiled at him and said, “Ah, good mornin’ Rainy! Nice to see ye finally out of bed, how do ye feel?”
Rain smiled weakly and shook his head as he said, “Fine, I guess. You?”
Bobbe never stopped smiling, as usual, and said, “As me Aunt Jone would say, ‘I feel free and happy like a pickle in a pepper pot’ or something along that line. Ye hungry?”
Rain shook his head. “No, I’m just going out for a walk, want to come?”
Bobbe shook his head as he said, “No thank ye, me bones are too old for that, but ye enjoy the day.”
Rain nodded and went outside. He took a deep breath of the fresh air and sighed. He had forgotten how much he loved being outside. A breeze blew and his ears bent in the wind. He walked through the streets of Newcity. It was quiet today, almost too quiet. He looked around and saw no one, the streets were empty and silent, it made him feel uncomfortable. Where was everyone?
It was as if everyone was hiding from something. He looked at the sky, maybe it was going to rain and that was why no one was outside, but no, there was not a cloud in sight. He was so confused, was there something he had missed?
Then he heard a sound somewhere behind him. He turned around slowly as he said, “Hello? Is someone there?” But there was no one.
He walked around looking for any sign of who had made a sound but there was nothing, maybe it had just been his imagination. Then Rain felt something grab his neck and pull him back. He was going to scream but a hand was clamped over his mouth. He struggled against whoever was dragging him, but he couldn’t get free. The rabbit had its arm around Rain’s neck making it hard to breathe.
Rain looked around; he was being dragged through a small, tight alley. Finally, the rabbit stopped. Rian tried to get free but the rabbit only tightened his grip around Rain’s throat. Rain gasped for air then he heard the rabbit speak to him.
“Don’t struggle if ye want to live and whatever ye do, don’t scream or I might find a use for me dagger. Do ye understand?”
Rain nodded.
“Good,” the rabbit said as he let go of him. Rain fell to the ground clasping his throat, he looked up at the buck. The rabbit was tall with matted black fur. His eyes were deep brown and he had a scar on his top lip like someone had hit him, hard. The buck’s clothes were ripped and torn in many places and the buck was as skinny as a rail. Rain saw three more bucks standing behind the black one, all of them wore tattered clothes and they were all unhealthy and skinny.
But Rain felt like he had seen this black rabbit before. Rain imagined the black rabbit without all the grime and filth, he imagined the rabbit in clean clothes and combed fur, and without the scar. Rain’s eyes widened as he said in a trembling voice, “Jed.”
The black rabbit looked at Rain then said, “How do you know me name?”
Rain’s eyes filled with tears and he jumped to his feet. “Jed, it’s me! Rain, your brother remember?”
The black rabbit, Jed, looked down then shook his head and said, “No, ye are not me brother. I have no family, not anymore. Yer Momma didn’t care about me when me Papa died, why should I even call ye family?”
Rain was confused, his Momma had never said anything about his father or Jed since the day that Momma and Father had split. Rain opened his mouth to speak but was cut off by a yell, “There they are get them!”
Rain saw at least ten guards, his mind swam and he looked to Jed and yelled, “Jed, what did you do?”
Jed looked at him then said, “I don’t have to tell ye anything.”
Then Jed ran off with his gang and Rain was forced to follow his outlawed brother into who knows what kind of danger.
