Caspian watched with wide eyes, the large wolf was now on top of his brother, its teeth barred and ready to tear him to shreds. Caspian heard the echoing sound of his brother crying out in pain as the wolf's teeth and claws tore into his flesh. Caspian knew that he couldn't just stand here and watch his little brother die a slow painful death. It was his job to protect his brother not watch him suffer.
Caspian scanned the area to see where the other large wolves might be, how could he protect his brother before it was too late. More cries filled the air as the wolf began to get more intense in its attack. Caspian's heart beat fiercely against his chest and he started to plan what he was going to do. Four other wolves were a little ways behind the large one that was on his brother, all the wolves had their sharp yellow teeth barred as they hunkered close to the ground rolling their large shoulder blades back, their glowing eyes filled with hatred and it caused shivers to go through Caspian. He took his eyes away from the wolf and looked towards Edmund who had his bow out with an arrow knocked, a worried expression upon his face as he looked at the wolf that was slowly beginning to kill Caspian's brother.
Caspian watched as he brought the bow and arrow up, and aimed at the wolf's stomach. Edmund took a deep breath and was about to fire, but then he hesitated and lowered his bow.
"What are you doing? Fire, fire now!" Caspian shouted.
Edmund looked toward him with a worried expression still on his face. He then said with a small quiver in his voice, "I can't the wolf is moving too much, I'm afraid I might hit your brother. I can't take the risk. Sorry, Caspian."
More and more cries escape from his brother every minute. Caspian couldn't bear the thought of losing his brother, not when he was supposed to be protecting him. Caspian looked down at the gleaming battleax that he held in one hand. He wrapped his other hand around the handle of the battleax, holding it tightly. He lifted it and looked into Edmund's glowing green eyes.
"Please, don't tell me you're going to go out there and get yourself killed," Edmund said.
"Someone has to save him, and it's going to be me," Caspian said as he walked away from Edmund and took a deep breath. He then went towards the evil wolf that was killing his brother.
Caspian slowly made his way toward the large wolf so that none of the other wolves would see him coming. But one of the wolves saw him and it hunkered closer towards the ground with this fur raised and teeth showing. It then pounced towards Caspian.
Caspian did the only thing he could think of, he fell to his knees sliding underneath the wolf. Caspian could feel tiny rocks ripping through his knees as he slid away from the wolf. When the wolf was over him, and on the opposite side, Caspian jumped to his feet and spun around to face it. The wolf glared hard at him and said, with a rough voice, "You're smarter than your little friend."
The wolf pounced one more, only this time Caspian wasn't ready for it. The wolf tackled him hard to the ground sinking his sharp claws deep into his shoulders. Caspian cried out as agonized pain filled him. He thought that this might be the end. Then a loud thump followed by a cry filled the air.
The wolf's eyes widened as it rolled off of him with an arrow sticking from its stomach. Caspian looked up to see Edmund standing over him. Caspian nodded as he slowly stood wincing from the pain that shot through his shoulders.
"I'll fight the other wolves off, you get your brother," Edmund said as he frantically looked around. He then looked back at Caspian. "Where's Shasta?"
"I don't know," Caspian said through clenched teeth as he tried to ignore the pain that was vibrating through his form.
Edmund nodded as he knocked an arrow and fired it toward a running wolf. The arrow soared through the sky and hit the wolf straight in the chest, the wolf let out a howl and fell to the ground, never to rise again. Edmund dropped to all fours and lashed out at a pouncing wolf, tackling him to the ground.
Caspian shook his head as he took his eyes from Edmund and focused on his brother, that was his one priority right now. Protect his little brother before his life was taken away in a blink of an eye.
Caspian spun around to where the wolf was on his brother, he ran a few paces toward his brother and was ready to jump out and kick the wolf off when he saw Shasta come out of nowhere and tackle the wolf. Caspian watched as the two wolves locked in a nasty fight with tooth and claw.
Caspian saw that Shasta was soaked in blood along with the large wolf. He thought about helping Shasta but the moment he did was when Shasta took down the large wolf. The large wolf lay on the ground as limb as a rag. Caspian looked around to see that all the wolves were dead except for one that ran off with its tail tucked. Caspian ran to his brother that lay on the ground soaked in blood. He fell to his knees beside him to see many deep wounds, so many that there was nothing he could do. He needed a doctor and fast or his brother's life would be gone.
Okay, maybe that was pretty intense....just a little bit....but I think I did pretty good!!!
Woww, that was intense!!!! But in JUST the right way. Oh Caspian's poor brother!!!! He better not be mortally wounded... please no... please... please. :( You are so good at keeping us in suspense!!! :) Fabulous chapter!!!!
Feedback: this is minor, but you used a form of the word tear two sentences in a row in the first paragraph, so maybe just be aware of that! Btw, you're doing a great job of showing and not telling!
