After breakfast, Caspian and the gang walked through the thick brush. They were on their way to First Warren to steal some food and supplies. Caspian didn't really like to steal but it was the only way to keep them alive. So, he had to.
Caspian looked over at his brother, who was walking right beside him, his hand was on the hilt of his sword and his fiery blue eyes scanned the whole area. Caspian saw a worried oppression come across his brother's face.
"Are you..." but before Caspian could finish his sentence, his brother raised a hand for him to be silent. His brother cocked his ears like he was trying to concentrate. Caspian did the same as his hand automatically went for to the shaft of his battleax.
Caspian looked over at Shasta and Edmund a few steps away, Shasta was on all fours his grayish-black fur was raised and his back curved. Edmund had his bow knocked with two arrows. Caspian's heart began to race fiercely against his chest as he heard movements all around them. He then heard a low growl and at first, thought it was Shasta until he looked over to see that it was not Shasta. That could only mean one thing, one thing that caused fear to rise up and in Caspian's heart. He heard his brother whisper, "Morbin's wolves."
"I know, but I don't know why they would be this far out," Caspian whispered back.
"That's why I'm going to find out," Caspian's brother said as he drew his sword free of the scabbard.
Caspian glared at his brother and said, through clenched teeth, "Don't you dare do what I think..." but before Caspian could finish what he was going to say his brother sprinted off towards the loud movements of the wolves.
"You fool!" Caspian called out as he drew his battleax free from the straps on his back, he then followed where his brother had gone and yelled over his shoulder, "Shasta, Edmund, follow me."
Caspian ran, he couldn't stop thinking about how foolish his brother was. How many wolves there might be? Caspian almost cringed at the thought as he pushed himself to run faster with all the strength he can muster. His lungs felt like they were on fire, every stroke he took his heart raced faster than it ever had before. He was like an arrow gliding through the sky, ready to hit its target. He saw out of the very corner of his eye that Shasta was down on all fours running with magnificent speed as he passed Caspian, leaving behind a cloud of dirt in his wake.
Caspian coughed from all the dust and tried to push himself just a little bit faster, that was all he needed. But his lungs begged to differ as his windpipes started to close in making it difficult to breathe. Edmund whisked past him, then he stopped a few feet away and looked back with a worried light in his dark guys. Caspian stopped running and gasped for air as he laid his hands on his knees. He wheezed and coughed and thought he might never get his breath back, at least it felt that way as he tried to find some of the precious air.
"Caspian," he heard Edmund call out faintly. He raised a finger up as he finally felt some air slowly begin to enter his lungs, it felt wonderful to be able to breathe once again. Edmund took a deep breath as they started running again, Edmund stayed right beside him the whole time and Caspian was grateful for his friend's loyalty.
Caspian and Edmund pushed themselves to run faster as they heard the evil growls of Morbin's wolves. Caspian tightened the grip on his battleax as he saw five angry, massive wolves. Caspian saw his brother standing in front of one of Morbin's wolves. The wolf was massive with gray fur and piercing red eyes. The wolf was on all fours, in a crouching position, ready to pounce at any moment. The wolf's fur was raised straight up on its back, it let out a howl and pounced!
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaa, talk about some action!!!! Wow, this was so interesting and enjoyable to read!! Caspian's brother really is rather reckless (I love how you described his eyes as "fiery blue eyes", by the way!). I'm so relieved Caspian was able to get his breath back, because I thought he was going to pass out or something, but now, of course a hugely suspenseful cliffhanger is here!!!! You're always so good at keeping my interest by making a cliffhanger happen at the end. I feel like I'm right in the story with them!!! Amazing job, Rissy!!!!
I hope Caspian's brother is okay, and they all escape. I am pretty much certain Caspian is going to meet Ella sometime, so I also hope Ella survives. I always feel like your characters are going to die...
Oh dear!!! I hope they're okay!! And I love the names Caspian and Edmund!!!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH wolves!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! quick question, is this during or before the mending?
awesome job Rissy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
