Upstairs, Isle went into her bedroom with Joel, and Cassie went with Amber in her room.

"Joel?" Isle asked.

"Yes?"

"Can I ask you something?"

"Sure."

"How did you survive? Alone, with no home all those years?"

"I did what I had to. I would steal food, drink from the river, and hide in the woods to sleep," Joel replied.

"But how? How did you never get caught or killed by someone."

"I-I don't know…"

“I’m sorry you’re an orphan,” Isle said.

“Thank you.”

“How long will we be here?”

“I’m not sure. Maybe a few minutes, maybe a few days. When your dad says we can come out, we will.”

“Okay,” she replied with a smile. He looked into her eyes and smiled back. She laid her head on his shoulder and closed her eyes.
