So I know I already posted a chapter last night but when I found out it was M.G.P's b-day I just had to do this... I hope you like your character! P.S. I just chose some generic christen names in hope that it might be close to yours... Hope you enjoy!
The sun beat down, melting the snow and creating a brown sort of muck. Fritzs slipped and spun as he made his way to the outdoor fire. He steadied himself on a tree then eyeing the fire he pushed himself away, hoping to get momentum, but he flew across the icey lawn too fast and he slammed into the fireplace, sending himself sprawling on the ground. He heard giggles from behind him and he flipped over onto his stomach. Carla and another doe, who Fritz recognized immediately stood in their boots, laughing at him. He smiled and struggled to get to his feet. The doe had beautiful, sleek black fur, and deep, wonderful, emerald eyes. He had realized that it was his father's servant and he wanted to run to her and wrap her in a hug. When he had first started skipping school, food had been slipped under the door, and he hadn’t known who it was until he had once caught her cleaning his room and leaving a new dish.
She grinned sheepishly, as if she knew what he was thinking. Carla cleared her throat squeakily and he realized he had been staring for too long. Carla gave him a teasing wink and he flushed, then half walked, half crawled over to them. “Hey.” he said, trying to remain cool. He leaned against another tree, hoping he wouldn’t make more of a fool of himself. “Fritz,” Carla said, wiggling her eyebrows, “This is Marissa Grace, she's Curt Potter's daughter.” Marissa Grace Potter. It had a nice ring to it… “She's around your age,” Carla continued, “She works for our father, she's the one who gives you food when you're not at school!”
“WHAT!” Fritz screached, clamping a hand over his sister's mouth quickly. “How do you know!” He whispered angrily and he didn’t notice as Marissa backed off, a slight frown on her face. Muffled sounds came from his sister's mouth as she shouted for Troy. “Shhhhh!!!!” he hissed dragging her clumsily to the edge of the woods. She bit his hand and he let out a cry, dropping her and sliding to the ground. “Ouch! What was that for!” he said, wiping his hand continuously on his thin coat. “What do you mean!” She said, pointedly raising her voice to annoy him. “You were dragging me to the woods!” Fritz flinched. He had forgotten that Carla was deathly afraid of the woods. “Sorry, okay? Now tell me how you knew I was skipping school!” Carla shrugged, “What do you mean? Me and Troy and Mam knew!”
“Oh.” Said Fritz, shocked at the news.
“Don't be mad.” Came a sweet voice from behind. Fritz turned, Marissa was fiddling with her apron, though her eyes pierced into his, as if she dared him to disobey her. He nodded. “Fine. But you didn't tell anyone, right?”
“Well you still have a house to live in, so no.” Carla said, backing up next to Marissa Next to Marissa she looked tiny, her arms crossed and eyes squinted. Marissa looked at him pointedly and getting the hint he looked down at his sister saying “Thanks. Father would kill me if he knew.” She nodded curtly then turned, Marissa at her heels. They walked flawlessly to the well and drew an icy bucket of water from the well. Then they hoisted the bucket together and sauntered away. Fritz made sure they were gone before he slid over to the fire, grabbing a piece of wood from yesterday and kindling it quickly. He enjoyed the heat for a minute, letting the flames create an intricate pattern on his hands before he spun and tried to stomp away to the house so he could start on the potato soup he was certain Troy was working on already.
When he and Troy had finished their “younger buck” chores Fritz snuck up to his room pulling a stolen piece of paper from under his bed and pulling out a red ink quill. He jotted down some notes on how he could get away. But now he felt guilty that he was leaving the rest of his family. He ignored it, finishing his list. It read:
Escape at night
Create distraction
Take family?
Ask Charlie Board for help...
He crossed out taking his family and circled the last one with a sigh. It was his only hope.
Charlie Board was the town's “Crazy man” but Cory had once mentioned he thought that Prince had used the “genius Charlie” to escape from the household. Fritz knew where Charlie lived, he walked past there every day on his way to the lake where he would stay until his father left for work. So he snuck back down the stairs and through the hall, again avoiding contact with the frames on the wall. Once he was outside he found the sidewalk/gravel path and followed it a ways down, until he came to a run down shack. He walked up to it, trying to not get pricked by the many dead rose bushes sticking from the slush. He rapped on the door and it flew open to reveal a strong stench of alcohol. He wrinkled his nose and looked down to see a crazy eyes buck, not taller than Troy and Carla. Charlie smiled. “So,” He said motioning Fritz inside. “They youngin Prince as returned.”
“No sir.” Fritz said, walking slowly into the room, gagging at the stench. “What you be a needen.” Charlie said, raising a long, wild, eyebrow and sitting on a small pile of leaves, uncorking a bottle of bitter liquid. “Um, sir, I need help. I need to get away, and I need you to cause some sort of distraction.” Charlie scowled. “Okay! I'll pay you before I leave.” Fritz said desperately. Charlie continued to scowl. Fritz sighed. “Fine. I’ll steal some fine wine from my fathers wine cell and give it to you.” Charlie's face seemed to lighten. He stood, holding out a scuffed hand. “I phink.” He started, his words now slurred. “dat you and me could make a gerd team.”
Fritz held out his hand, taking Charlies greasy one in his. Then with a grin he shook it.
Just wonderful. I love your descriptions and the dialogue and the plot and everything!!! I feel sorry Fritz (lol that was embarrassing for him at the beginning when he crashed into the fireplace) and am SO excited to see what happens next!!!
