It had been a few years since Layra’s death and since then mother had hardly spoken a word. She just sat there in the rocking chair by the window. So, Weezie tried to do everything she could to make mother smile. But it didn’t work. She knew mother was hurting, a lot, but mother wasn’t the only one hurting. Layra had been her twin and best friend, it didn’t feel the same without her. It felt like she was missing her other side, the side that made her smile, and made her happy. Would she always feel like this? She missed Layra and father every day, but she would always remember them and the good times they had together.

She walked to her room and opened the door, she went to grab her bow, but then she saw Layra’s bow and quiver laying by her’s. She picked it up as tears ran down her face. Why did it have to be Layra? Why couldn’t it just have been her? She hugged the bow and quiver to her heart; it was the last piece of Layra she had. She remembered Duncan, wondered if he make it out alive and what about his brother? She hoped that they had, they sure were lucky if they had.

She shook her head as she looked out the window. Her eyes went wide, she saw two rabbits walking towards the house. Was it him? Had he come for her now too? She couldn’t let him take her no matter what, she had made a promise to Layra and she wouldn’t break it. She ran down the stairs with Layra’s bow and quiver. She swung the door open and ran outside, then grabbed an arrow from the quiver and nocked it.

“Turn around and head back where you came from.” Weezie said, stiffly. One of the bucks an older black buck, raised his hands and the young golden-grey buck did the same. “I won’t warn you again, not another step!” She warned raising her bow.

Well that’s the end of this fanfic, if you want to continue this story pick up in Chapter 28 of Ember Rising…lol… hoped you guys enjoyed it! Might write another one, possibly about Duncan and his brother, as long as school doesn’t keep me to busy, we start in about three weeks.
