So actually, the reason I wanted to do this fan fiction was the ending, I was just writing so ideas and BOOM! So I wrote this. I'm actually like SUPER sad that it's over. I wanted it to be over at first but now I can hardly bear it. I got too attached to the characters!!! I promised myself that wouldn’t happen and yet, here we are. Thank you for all the encouraging things you’ve said that helped me write this… Thanks to all of you. I hope you enjoy the ending. I cried, but I’m very emotional and I was sad it was ending too. I’ll for sure write another fan fiction eventually, I have many ideas but I hope you like it! 😭
A loud slam caused Helmer to sit up, only to receive a pounding headache. Dark corners tugged at his vision, but he shook his pounding head anyway. He blinked, moaning as he felt the pain of the rest of his injuries. He felt bruises on his wrists and all up his arm. His right arm was stiff and he glanced at it, seeing a thick bandage. He looked around the room he was in, it was lively and bright, too happy. He could feel the dampness of his face but he ignored it, wanting to leave now. He tried to get to his feet, but he stumbled and accidentally rammed his hurt arm into the wall. “Ouch!” He exclaimed, backing away. Once he was steady on his feet he tripped over to the white door and opened it. He found himself in a large hall, with many closed doors. No one was there, but he was unfamiliar with this place. He looked around and saw a door propped open not far from the last room in the hall. He hobbled over, eager for fresh air. He burst out and was shocked as humid air hit him, the droplets landing on his face, like tears he hadn’t yet shed. He blinked fiercely then looked around. The clearing was large and chatter filled the air. Suddenly silence fell then whispers started back up. He looked around, rabbits huddled away from him, scowling, and frowning. He wanted to fall on the ground and sob but he hurried away, down a small bank. Once the sounds had subsided, he collapsed to the ground ignoring the pain in his knees. He looked at the ground and hit it, without thinking. It felt good, he pounded the ground and screamed in agony. The pain, the loss, he couldn’t bear it. He sobbed on the ground whispering the names of all those he was certain he had lost. “Airen,” He sobbed. “I failed. I failed!” He screamed. He felt the pain leave for a second, leaving only anger and he stood, tearing grass from the ground. He tore leaves from a tree screaming at it. He pounded his fists against it, then the pain returned. He collapsed under the tree, shaking violently. Helmer… He sat up straighter and looked around for Airen whom he was sure had whispered his name. He realized it was just in his head, that the small breeze was shaking the leaves into whispers that reminded him of all the voices. He closed his eyes and leaned against it breathing in the humid air, letting the voices fill his head.
You know I’m proud right…
He’s too good for us…
Why can’t I be in charge!
Love from your coolest friend, Snoden...
Is he dead???
My arm for the cause and crown...
Take a chance son…
Helmer's eyes burst open, and he brought himself back to the present. He looked ahead at the buck trudging helplessly away. This young buck needed help. But not just any help, his help. Helmer listened once again, getting to his feet, tears filling his eyes as memories filled his head. His heart might be broken but he could always take a chance…
Well, I had to take a chance, didn't I???
C’mon take a chance…
Take a chance son...
Take a chance…
He placed his fist over his heart.
Then, right there, and then, Helmer Black took a chance.
One last chance.
“I accept you.”
What a great ending!!! We loved it! So sad its over, can't wait to see what else you write!!! But that was a great way to end it, completed story! You circled back to the beginning and it made it PERFECT!!!!!!
I love it so much! I almost cried as I read it! Amazing ending!
This chapter... I completely understand you crying. I almost cried too, and I hardly ever cry. Oh Picket... Helmer.... That relationship is the sweetest thing in The Green Ember. Thank you so much, @Jo4life .
