Rissy
Alice watched as the black buck brought his blade high over his head, in line with Digory’s neck. Her heart raced against her chest as she tried to think of what she could do. He wasn’t that far from her. Maybe she could get there in time to save him. The only problem was getting there. Her foot throbbed, she looked around for something that could help her get up. A tree stood not too far from her; she could use the tree to get to her feet.
She leaned against the tree and slowly rose to her feet, putting all her weight on her good foot. She set the other one gently on the ground, testing it, and almost screamed. The pain was antagonizing. She tried to ignore the pulsing pain as she did the only thing she knew to do. She launched forward, throwing her body between Digory and the black buck’s deadly blade.
She felt the descending blade rip into her arm and screamed at the pain that erupted there. She hit the ground in front of Digory, knocking him over. The two of them rolled a little way. Pain shot through her foot and coursed through her arm. Finally, she managed to stop rolling. Then she looked down at her arm. It was covered in blood.
She tried to keep herself from fainting as she realized that her arm was still bleeding. She looked to the ground and saw more blood; it made her sick. But then a voice took her mind off it, and she looked up to see the buck talking.
“You are a brave one to jump in the way like that. My dear, the captain was right, you did surprise us, and now it's time for you to pay.”
Alice was scared, so scared her whole body shook. She finally managed to say something, “What do you mean?”
The buck looked at her as he walked even closer to her. “Oh, you will see. Oh yes, you shall see, my dear.” He then pulled something out of his shirt, a whistle of sorts. Alice was confused and in pain. She then watched as the buck put the whistle to his lips and blew on it. Whistle made a strange sound, and the buck lowered it and put it back in his shirt.
He then bent down beside her and grabbed her face roughly in his hand. Alice tried to fight, but she couldn’t. She was tired and weak, and her mind was on something else. Wasn’t there two does? Aaron was still fighting one, but where was the reddish one?
She pulled away from the buck, and looked around searching for the missing doe. But she didn’t see her. Her eyes rested on Digory who still lay on the ground. He must have been knocked unconscious by the impact or during the tumble that followed. But she still did not see the doe.
“You’re looking for something, aren’t you?” The buck asked, chuckling.
She looked at the buck, a fire glowing in her golden-brown eyes. She was about to say something when she heard a loud screech. A shadow then flew over her. Her heart started racing once more, and fear rushed in.
Birds filled the sky, but it wasn’t just birds. Rabbits sat on the backs of the massive birds. She heard Aaron call her name and caught the rest of the sentence. “Lookout Alice!”
She looked up as a large bird, with a dark cloaked figure was flying right toward her. She sole target of the giant beast. She couldn’t move because of her foot. She thought about rolling out of the way, but before she could do anything, she felt someone grab her and push her toward the bird. Sharp talons gripped her shoulders, and she let out a scream as she was lifted off the ground.
She heard Aaron call her name and watched as he looked up at her. She had never been so scared in her life or in so much pain. She didn’t know where they were taking her. The only thing she knew is that it would lead to her death.
No, no, no!!!! Alice! I think I have learned to like her. She is brave, and she doesn't really hate Aaron or Digory. She was willing to save Digory's life.
