Alice landed on the ground, and a sharp pain shot up her foot. She wanted to scream, but instead, she clenched her teeth as tears poured down her face. She heard Aaron and Digory speaking, but she had no idea what they were saying. She was too busy thinking about the agonizing pain that was, coursing through her foot and how useless she was. Why did she have to trip over a stupid stone? And why did her foot have to hurt so much?
But this wasn’t really her fault. Aaron was the one that dragged her into this in the first place. He had dragged her away from her home, and she was mad at him. She wanted to scream at him. She felt like someone else was taking over her body, and she couldn’t escape. The angrier she got, the more she lost herself. She felt like the world was going to collapse under her, and she would fall into a great void of nothing. She missed her home, Pearl, and Mama and Papa. She wished she could take back every awful thing she had ever said to them, but they were dead. It was all her fault. She wanted to blame it on someone else, and so she blamed it on Aaron.
If he had not brought Digory with him, she wouldn’t have got mad. If he hadn’t asked her to the dance, she never would have done any of this. So, it was all his fault.
She heard a rabbit speak, but it was someone she didn’t know. His voice was smooth, like a clear spring day, but sounded like he was a ways off. “Listen bucks,” the rabbit said, “I don’t want to harm ye or the doe, but if it comes to that, then I will. So here is what I’m going to do if y’all put down yer weapons without a fight, then you may live.”
Alice could tell from the buck’s voice that he was bluffing. She slowly stood up, ignoring the awful pain in her foot. She almost fell back down, but Aaron turned around and caught her before she hit the ground. She let out a small scream, mad that Aaron had helped her. She didn’t want any help from him.
She watched as he looked her over with his grey-blue eyes, like he was her father, as he laid her gently on the ground. This just made her madder. She pushed him away and said, anger in her voice, “You shouldn’t have caught me. I don’t need your help, so back off Aaron, and let me be.”
But then she remembered why she had tried to stand up in the first place. She looked at Aaron rolling her eyes. She didn’t want to tell him. She didn’t know why she just didn’t. But she knew if she didn’t tell him, it would affect her too. She huffed, then said, “That buck’s not telling the truth. He’s bluffing. If you don’t believe me, then fine.”
“Of course, I believe you,” Aaron said softly, “and I had a feeling he wasn’t telling the truth. We are going to fight ourselves out of this one.” Aaron then stood and faced the rabbits somewhere in the distant darkness. “I don’t think we’ll surrender our weapons, at least not without a fight.”
She then heard the buck in the darkness, but this time he sounded closer, “If that’s what you want.”
She heard the sound of running footsteps. She lay on the ground useless as she listened to the loud clanging of steel on steel. She tried to keep her eyes on Aaron and Digory. She watched as Aaron blocked an overhead strike from…a doe’s blade?
Wait, a doe fighting? That was different. She took her eyes from Aaron and followed the movements of the doe instead. The doe brought her sword around with surprising ease and aimed for Aaron’s middle. Aaron jumped back before the sword could touch him. Alice then watched as the doe’s long dress swished around her ankles as she strategically placed her feet. She was beautiful. A grey doe with lighter grey, almost white tips to some of her fur, and she seemed to know how to use a sword.
The doe kicked Aaron in the stomach, and Alice watched as Aaron fell to the ground gasping for air. Then the doe brought her blade down to Aaron’s throat. Alice called his name as he rolled out of the blade's path. The blade stuck in the ground inches away from Aaron.
Aaron got to his feet, holding his spear in both hands as the doe walked toward him. Alice glanced toward Digory, who was fighting a buck and doe. The doe had reddish fur, and the buck was black. Digory was fighting well, but he had many blood spots on his clothes. Alice screamed as Digory fell to his knees.
Oh. No!! Poor Digory! Watch out!!!
Hehehehe
I think I like Alice a lot. She’s awesome. But Aaron’s being a bit pushy for my liking... Hes cool and all but I feel like he’s being unfair to Alice. she can take care of herself. just because she said she would go to a dance with him doesnt mean she’s obligated to do stuff for him and go where he wants even if she could get hurt.
Oh no!!!! Wonderfully written!!! I love Alice and relate with her but since I also love Aaron it makes me mad that she doesn't like him, and she's blaming everything on him. :( I can't wait for the next chapter!! :))
AAAAH, great job!! NOOO!!!
