Rissy
The two rabbits dragged Alice away and over toward a large tent. Alice fought them every step of the way, even though she knew it was useless, but that didn’t keep her from fighting. She fought them with everything she had in her; she would not give in. Alice yelled and wiggled, trying to get free. She screamed as the worst pain she had ever felt shot through her foot and up her leg. Then her arm throbbed with hot intense pain.
They dragged her to the front of the large tent. Two rabbits in long black cloaks with spears in their hands stood on either side of the large tent. Alice then heard one of the rabbits that held her speak to the guards. “Is the Captain here? We have the doe. He wanted to speak with her.”
It was silent for a while, then the cloaked rabbit spoke, “He’s not here at the moment, but I could send someone to fetch him if you like.”
She felt one of the rabbits who held her nod then say, “That sounds good. She’ll be waiting inside. Oh, and is Lancely in there?”
The guard nodded, and the two rabbits dragged her into the tent. Once inside the tent, Alice looked around. The large tent was dark, the only light that of a few torches here and there. Soon her eyes adjusted to the dim light, but just as she was about to look around, the rabbits holding her arms leg go, and she fell to the floor. She clenched her teeth as pain shot through her body, and she tried to keep from screaming.
Then the two rabbits left, leaving her alone in the tent, at least that’s what she thought until she heard a voice. It was a buck’s voice. “You must be the one that the Captain wants to see, my dear.”
Alice looked around, trying to figure out where the voice was coming from, but she couldn’t tell. Her heart slowly started racing in her chest. “Who are you, and what do you want with me?” She yelled out into the space around her.
She waited for the voice to answer, but it didn’t. Instead, she heard a laugh, then the voice answered, “Why you are funny, my dear, and I am surprised that you have the guts to speak to me like that.” This time the voice had sounded closer as if it was coming from somewhere behind her.
Her heart beat faster against her chest as she slowly turned her head to see a rabbit standing face to face with her. He was only inches away from her. Her eyes widened as she tried to keep herself from screaming. He was so close that she could see him now, unlike before when he had alluded her in the shadows. He wasn’t old actually, he looked to be just a few years older than her. He was handsome with black and tan fur and light green eyes. His eyes bored into her’s making her feel uncomfortable.
She had been expecting something different, like an older rabbit. The buck smiled at her as he took her face in his hand. He then said, “The Captain will be here in a second, but before he gets here, he wanted me to tell you to do something.”
“I won’t do anything for y’all,” Alice said, her voice rough.
“Then I guess we’ll just have to kill someone that we have here and that you love so dearly,” the rabbit said.
“And what do you mean by that?” She asked.
A smile came to the rabbit’s face. “See for yourself,” he said, as he turned her head toward a dark corner where three figures stood. One of the figures wore a long cloak with a hood over his head. She couldn’t see his face. She then turned her head towards the two other figures, incredulous at what she saw, Pearl!
She thought that Pearl was dead. Her heart slowed as she looked at her sister, who had a knife place against her throat. The rabbit holding the knife to Pearl’s throat had a smile on his face.
Alice froze in time, not able to comprehend what she was seeing. Finally, she managed to speak. “I’ll do whatever you guys want, please, please, don’t hurt my sister.”
The rabbit turned her head back to him. “Good idea, and here is what we need you to do. We need your help to get your friends.”
“Alice, don’t listen to them, this is a trick!” Alice heard Pearl say.
But Alice ignored everything Pearl said. She looked into the light green eyes of the rabbit in front of her and took a deep breath. She then said, “I will do it. I think I know how to do it, but remember I am doing this for my sister’s life, not for you.”
