Disclaimer: I'm honestly not sure what to put here, so... Apart from Bailey/Broken Arrow, I do not own the characters. Um... other legal stuff... If anyone has a better way to phrase this part, please let me know so I can update it.
Bailey scrambled out of the way. Alexander lunged at her. She heard the sound of metal on metal as she tried to avoid the attack. She turned to see Caleb blocking Alexander's attack.
"What are you doing?" Alexander exclaimed, anger filling his voice. He moved to get around Caleb.
"Protecting the innocent!" Caleb replied, blocking another blow.
"She's a wolf," Alexander replied, attacking again, "she's probably been giving our secrets away."
"She is not like the other wolves," Caleb retorted, "She's kind, caring, and would never hurt anyone." Bailey caught Caleb's eye and he smiled.
"No wolf is like that," Alexander argued. "Now step away from the traitor, or I will have to kill you as well." Alexander stepped back to give Caleb room to move.
"She's no traitor," Caleb replied, "and I will not let you hurt her."
Infuriated, Alexander shouted and lunged at Caleb. The blow glanced off Caleb's sword and cut into his shoulder.
"Caleb! Bailey exclaimed, scared. Caleb just grit his teeth, not moving from in front of Bailey.
Trying another tactic, Alexander lunged around Caleb and tried to get Bailey. Caleb turned to block the attack, which put him off balance. Then, Alexander knocked him over.
"No!" Bailey exclaimed, lunging at Alexander. She tackled him.
Surprised, Alexander quickly recovered and shoved her off. He went to attack, but was surprised when it was blocked by a short dagger. Bailey pushed back to give herself a little room. She knew the dagger wouldn't be very helpful, but it was better than nothing. She adjusted her grip and prepared for another attack.
Alexander was now enraged. He lunged at her again. He just kept swinging, his attacks getting less and less coordinated. Bailey blocked them, but it was getting harder. Caleb tried to get up, but he put pressure on his injured arm and fell back over.
Alexander paused. Bailey lowered her guard slightly in surprise, taking the time to slow her breathing. Then, Alexander lunged, taking Bailey completely off guard. Bailey stumbled backwards to avoid his attack, but tripped over Caleb, who was trying to get up again. She dropped her dagger and it slid to the other side of the room.
Alexander chuckled. “Good try, but you just aren’t good enough, traitor.” He went to make his final attack.
"Stop!" shouted Lord Rake, stepping into the room. Alexander stepped back slightly, not taking his eyes off Caleb and Bailey. "Why this fighting between ourselves?"
"He's protecting a wolf," Alexander said, "I was dealing with the traitor."
"She's no traitor," Caleb said again through gritted teeth. Bailey had now gotten off of Caleb and was checking his shoulder. It was bleeding, but thankfully it didn’t look very deep. Bailey grabbed her dagger and cut a corner off her cape. She then wrapped Caleb’s shoulder and made a makeshift sling to keep it still.
“I wasn’t just talking about her,” Alexander said, raising his voice. “You…”
“Alexander,” Lord Rake barked.
“Yes sir?” Alexander asked, surprised.
“Stop,” Lord Rake sighed. “He’s just as loyal as you are, perhaps more so, if this is any indication.”
“But,” Alexander started.
“No, she’s with us,” Lord Rake said, gesturing at Bailey, who had stood up and was now helping Caleb to his feet.
“This is Bailey,” Lord Rake continued, putting his arm around her. “She came with Wilfred and Smalls.”
“Those traitors, of course they brought a wolf,” Alexander muttered under his breath.
“They aren’t traitors either,” Caleb retorted.
“I wasn’t talking to you,” Alexander snapped. His eyes were wide in anger.
“Boys, please stop,” Lord Rake said.
“Well, now you are,” Caleb replied, annoyance in his voice. He ignored Lord Rake and stepped closer to Alexander. “Besides, it’s Garten that’s the traitor. You shouldn’t just assume anyone related to him is also evil.”
“Boys, stop,” Lord Rake said, raising his voice slightly.
“Well, it appears we can’t even trust those in our own unit,” Alexander poked Caleb in the chest.
“Stop!” Lord Rake shouted, separating the boys. “We can’t fight among ourselves when we have a common enemy.”
“Yeah, her,” Alexander said, pointing at Bailey.
“She isn’t…” Caleb started, but then stopped when Lord Rake glanced at him.
“No, I trust Wilfred’s judgment,” Lord Rake continued. “If he trusts Bailey enough to put himself on the line, I trust her too.” Bailey smiled.
Alexander looked like he was about to say something, but decided better of it. “Fine,” he huffed.
“Thank you,” Lord Rake said. “We are just lucky no one else was here. This goes no further than this room, understand?”
Bailey nodded and Caleb said, “Understood, sir.” Alexander was silent.
“I said, do you understand?” Lord Rake repeated.
“Yes,” Alexander replied in an emotionless tone.
“Now I have some important matters to attend to,” Lord Rake continued, “one of which I was supposed to be at already, but I had to pause to deal with you. Goodbye.” Lord Rake turned and left the room.
“Come on,” Caleb said to Bailey, picking up her quilt, which thankfully had not gotten damaged in the mayhem, “Let’s go.” He walked past Alexander, not looking at him.
As Bailey passed Alexander, he whispered, “I’ll be watching you.” Bailey looked back in surprise, but he had already turned and started walking away.
Sorry that took so long. I traveled a lot of the summer and didn't have much time to work on it. It is a little shorter chapter, but action-packed. I really like how it turned out, but I had a hard time. I can visualize an action scene, but writing it out is a completely different thing. As always, feedback would be great! I hope you like it!
Ahhh, so good!!!! Alexander is ANNOYING, and that threat he whispered at the end... oh no. I love how Bailey isn't afraid to fight!!! Also the dialogue in here is so cool - very realistic and natural. Awesome job!!!
Grrr Alexander.... 😤
That was amazing! The way you wrote it had me feeling like I was actually there! Great job!
