Disclaimer: I'm honestly not sure what to put here, so... Apart from Bailey/Broken Arrow, I do not own the characters. Um... other legal stuff... If anyone has a better way to phrase this part, please let me know so I can update it.
Early one morning, Bailey climbed out of bed and grabbed her cloak. She snuck out of her room, trying not to wake anyone. She snuck down the hallway, and made her way towards the village green.
It had been about a week since they had first arrived at Cloud Mountain and Bailey had loved every minute of it. She had been spending a lot of time with Aunty Charlotte and Caleb. She had played more chess and almost beat Caleb once.
Once Bailey got to the village green, she quickly walked towards the edge of the meadow, right towards the bank of fog. She hung her cloak and mask on a nearby tree and stretched her wings. They were slightly tight from always being folded behind her back.
While Bailey enjoyed hanging out around Cloud Mountain, she had missed flying. So last night, she had made up her mind and decided to come out early in the morning before anyone came out and fly.
Bailey backed up a couple feet from the edge. She took a deep breath and then took off running towards the fog. She pushed off the edge of the meadow and lunged into the air. It was harder to breathe through the dense clouds, but soon she broke through the clouds.
Bailey sighed in relief. It sure is nice to fly around again, she thought, enjoying the breeze in her fur.
Suddenly, Bailey spotted an object out of the corner of her eye, and it was moving quickly towards her. She tried to dodge, but what appeared to be a flying bunny tackled her.
"What are you doing?" the flying rabbit said, suspicious. They were both falling rather quickly towards the forest below. Bailey tried to pull herself free, but the rabbit was quite strong.
"I just wanted to fly," Bailey stammered, "I'm sure you understand that."
The flying rabbit let go and nodded. "I do," the doe said, "But where are you going?" Now that Bailey could get a better look at her, she saw that the bunny had black fur. But her wings were surprising. They weren't wings like a hawk, but instead the wings of a dragon.
Bailey flew backwards a bit, giving a little room between herself and the flying bunny. "I don't know," she said, shrugging. "Just wanted to stretch my wings." They were flying next to each other, almost hovering in place.
"Hmm…" the rabbit said, not completely convinced, "Very well... I'm Midnight. And you are…" She waved her hand as if she expected Bailey to finish the statement.
"Broken Arrow," Bailey said, "but my friends call me Bailey. I've never seen a rabbit with dragon wings."
"And I've never seen a rabbit with wolf wings," Midnight replied, raising an eyebrow.
Bailey chuckled. "You mean wolf with hawk wings, right? Wolves don't normally have wings."
Midnight blinked a couple of times. "Yeah.. sorry." She smiled.
"No problem!" Bailey replied, "I'm pretty perplexed about it myself." She made a pompous face and they both cracked up.
They started to glide together, flying around. Bailey did a couple of flips to show off, and then Midnight repeated the maneuver easily. Bailey frowned and they continued to fly in silence.
"So…" Midnight started, trying to start a conversation. "Where are you from?"
"Nick Hollow," Bailey answered, then paused. "Well, I was about a year old when I came to Nick Hollow. I don't exactly remember where I was before that. What about you?"
"Aww, I'm sorry," Midnight said. Then she continued, "I'm from The Shade Hills, now anyway... Got any family here?"
Bailey frowned. "No," Bailey said, a hint of sadness in her voice, "Well I came here with Heather and Picket. They're the closest thing I have to family."
Midnight flew back slightly. "I'm sorry," she said. "Wait," her voice changed to one concern, and Bailey thought suspicion as well, "Picket and Heather Longtreader?"
"Yeah..." Bailey said, slightly nervous. She thought back to initiation, just a couple nights before. She had learned more about the past of Heather and Picket's family, as well as much more about the past of the community. But, she still didn't know much about herself. It didn't surprise her, but still, she wished she knew more. "Why?"
"Well," Midnight answered, "one of my cousins saw Nick Hollow burned down and wondered if your family is all right."
Bailey blinked in surprise and relaxed. Midnight just wanted to make sure she was okay, nothing else. "Well, Heather, Picket, and I made it out, but unfortunately Mother and Father and Baby Jacks..." Bailey stopped talking and frowned.
"Oh no!" Midnight exclaimed, surprise on her face. "I'm so sorry…" She paused. "Can I do anything to help you guys?"
"Thanks," Bailey said, smiling sadly. "I don't know though. I think we all just need friends."
"Alright," Midnight said, smiling, glad she could help. "Could we be friends?" She paused again, blushing. "If you like, that is…"
"Sure!" Bailey replied, smiling. "We could be the Fellowship of the Wing." Bailey started laughing at her own joke.
"Good one!" Midnight said, smiling wide and laughing. "I love the Lord of the Rings!"
Bailey gave Midnight a goofy smile. Then she noticed it had gotten brighter. "I need to head back now. I don't want any other rabbits finding out I'm a wolf."
"Alright!!" Midnight said, waving. "See you later!"
"Bye!" Bailey replied, waving back. She started to fly back towards Cloud Mountain. "Oh wait!" she called, turning back towards Midnight, "Do you want to meet in the Savory Den? Then we could head to my room to eat. And you could meet Heather and Picket."
"That would be great!" Midnight exclaimed, grinning.
"Good," Bailey replied, "I'll see you then!"
Midnight smiled, "Bye!" She liked Bailey a lot.
Bailey turned and flew back towards home. She smiled. It finally felt like home.
Sorry about the wait for this chapter! I had a lot of fun writing this part with @Fleck Cove! Anyway, I hope you like it. I will go ahead and post the next chapter as well, then wait a little bit, since I have several other chapters ready. As always, any feedback would be great and I hope you like it!
Awesome work!!!! I could tell you had fun because it was so fun to read!!! Lol "the fellowship of the wing"... that's hilarious!!!
Also, I meant to mention this earlier, but the point where she runs off the edge of the cliff made me think of the song "Say I Won't". I don't remember who it's by, but there is a line that says, "I'm gonna run, no I'm gonna fly" so, yeah...
awesome!!!!!!!! the collaboration was fun on this chapter!!!!!!!!!! great job!!!!!!!!
