“This way,” Hanna said as she sheathed her sword and walked towards a long spiral staircase. Her cousins followed.

Jo peered over the railing and gulped.

“What’s wrong Jo?” Maylie asked.

Jo looked away. “Nothing, let’s go.”

They walked at a fast pace, Hanna leading the way. Hanna knew they were getting close, they were almost there.

“I think we’re almost there,” Hanna said as she reached the top of the stairs.

“Wait!” Jo yelled.

Hanna spun around.

“Not again Jo, we’ve been through this! If want to leave then just leave!” Hanna snapped.

“No! Hanna, I’m serious, where’s Niles?” Jo said panic in his voice.

Hanna looked frantically around, but Jo was right Niles was…gone.

Hanna kicked herself. How could she have been so foolish? Why had she taken her eyes off him?

“How could I have been so dumb!” Hanna said, pulling on her ears.

“Jo, wait!” Maylie screamed.

Hanna looked up to see Jo sprinting off, but she also saw someone else. Saige BlackStar.

Hanna grabbed Maylie's hand and ran towards the room she was sure the buck she was looking for was in.

“We can’t leave them!” Maylie yelled.

“We don’t have a choice! Don’t worry, Jo will find Niles,” Hanna said as she opened the door and ran into the room.

Niles had been walking with Hanna and the others, when he had heard something. Something like crying. He had taken a slight detour to see what it was and now he wished he had never known.

Niles gulped as he knelt down beside the limp form of the rabbit, just to see if he was still alive or not. Then he heard a hissing sound. He froze.

“What do we have here?” a raspy voice said from behind him.

Niles slowly looked up, then gasped and scrambled away.

“You’re supposed to be dead,” Niles choked out.

The large dragon laughed. “Who told you that?” it asked as it came closer.

“My father,” Niles answered.

“Oh, really? And who might that be?” the dragon asked.

Niles stared into the dragon’s dark eyes.

“Kylen Joveson prince of Tarralain,” He said, though he didn’t know why had answered this beast.

The dragon stared at him. “Do you misssss your father young one?”

Niles didn’t know why, but he felt like he had to answer.

“Yes, I do, I really do,” he said, holding back his tears.

The dragon smiled. “Good, becausssse you’re about to join him!” the dragon yelled as she pounced at him.

Niles tried to escape, but the dragon was too fast.

Niles yelped as the dragon laid her claw over his small head.

“Time to die,” she said.

Niles kicked at the dragon as he screamed out. “Hanna help!!!”
