Hanna Joveson peered out over the vast barren terrain of Kingston Citadel. All was quiet the only sound that of her cousins shallow breaths and racing hearts. Hanna turned to face her three cousins, the only rabbits she could trust in this broken world. They all looked tired and weak, but they nodded their heads at her, a sign that they weren’t giving up just yet. Hanna smiled a weak, fake smile.
“Are you all ready for this?” She asked looking at them, with all the kindness she could muster from her hopeless heart.
“I am,” Niles Joveson said, stepping forward. Though Niles was the youngest of them he was also one of the bravest. Niles stood tall before her, even though at his full height his ears only made it to Hanna's neck. Niles smiled a almost hopeful smile.
“Me too,” Maylie Shanks said, stepping beside Niles.
Hanna nodded, then looked over at the one rabbit left.
“What about you Jo?”
Jo Longtreater looked at her, biting his lip and shifting his feet.
“Jo?” Niles said, cocking his head at his cousin.
Jo took a deep breath.
“I don’t agree with your plan, Hanna, but I…I want nothing more than to see my family again, so I’m in, but not for you for them,” Jo said, as he pushed passed them.
“He still blames me,” Hanna whispered.
“No, he doesn’t he is just hurting,” Maylie said, gently laying a hand on Hanna's shoulder.
“We all are!” Hanna yelled, pulling away from Maylie.
“Hanna?” Niles whispered, worry filling his deep green eyes, eyes that were to young to show such worry.
Hanna took deep breaths to calm herself.
“Their moving,” She said ignoring Niles. “We need to move, Jo, Niles, are you two ready?”
“I am,” Niles said softly.
“Okay…Wait, where’s Jo?” Hanna said, frantically looking around for her grey furred cousin.
“I don’t…” Maylie began, but just then a high pitched scream split through the air.
“Jo!” Niles screamed.
Hanna whirled around, but then froze.
“No, one moves unless you want your friend to die,” Fane BlackStar hissed, as he pressed his sword against Jo's neck.
“I’m sorry,” Jo gasped out, as blood trickled down his neck.
But there was no need for an apology it was to late they had been caught by one of the most merciless rabbits in all of Natalia. They were done for.
