Hero Defeats of (Mostly) Named Villains
So developments in The Lost Legend got me to thinking about the various antagonists who have appeared and been defeated in the series by named hero characters. Thought it might be fun to go through and break the topic down. As a note, there will be SPOILERS for Helmer in the Dragon Tomb, both book and game.
A good number of named or significant antagonists are the only ones to have been defeated, and often slain, by a particular hero. Flint’s said to have defeated Firstfoe, but we don’t know much more than that. Mother Saramack may or may not have taken out the unsavory commander Usher. King Whitson is known to have slain a Grimble tribe captain named Forne. Lander, of course, was responsible for killing Namoz the Destroyer. And Emerson was responsible for taking out Falcowit, though with a bit of assistance.
Speaking of which, Kylen and Naylen collaborated on their one big villain takedown, Tameth Seer, and even then had some assistance from Jo. King Jupiter may have defeated Garlacks by himself, but he also played a small but important role in the earlier defeat of the wolf lord Krazzon. Whittle Longtreader also vanquished two foes, Vitton and his own estranged brother Garten. Smalls killed the dragon prince, and then brought down Morbin Blackhawk with a major assist from our boy Picket.
If you count Picket’s assistance against Morbin, he has six enemy defeats to his credit (that we know of so far). Redeye Garlackson, General Flox, Bleston Goodson, Perkinson, and King Farlock all met their ends in confrontations with our boy. All he’s missing is a stray dragon and he’d have bested foes from all four sentient races in the series.
Jo, if we count his assisting the Terralain princes against Tameth Seer, also has six of these victories to his credit. He took out the wolves Black Stripe and Bant, shortly followed by the Preylord Solus. Jo also took down two of the Six in rather spectacular fashion. Being the main archer in the series has its advantages.
It should surprise no one that Helmer is at the top of the heap, equaling or even surpassing both his students depending on how you want to count things. There’s a bit of discrepancy between the two versions of Helmer in the Dragon Tomb here. In the book, Helmer takes out the pit boss Kurdon and avoids clashing with the hulking Malder Yishe. But in the game, Kurdon doesn’t appear to exist, and Helmer instead faces and defeats Malder.
Regardless, both pieces of media see Helmer fight and defeat the evil rabbit Karn and the wolf Krazzon, the latter with the assistance of Prince Jupiter. Helmer himself also provides a major assist to Jo in taking down Solus. #LastLordCaptain #BestLordCaptain went on to slay the vile Daggler before perishing in the act of slaying two of the Six and a host of other raptors and wolves. This isn’t really a contest…but the victor seems pretty clear to me.
Ya Helmer totally wins this, and to add on that he's gonna have more books to himself to kill more baddies!
This does get me thinking about the other side, villian defeats of heros.
