So. I've been meaning to put this up forever. I'm finally doing it! For a long time after I read Green Ember (who am I kidding? Ever since I read Green Ember!), I'd hear a song and think, "Wow. That song reminds me so much of Green Ember!"
Here are the top 10 songs that remind me of Green Ember and their links! Don't worry, every one of them is by a Christian artist and there is no profanity or anything.
1. 'Til the Day I Die (TobyMac). Come on, guys? Those first few lines? They have "Bear the Flame!" written all over 'em!
4. Warrior (Hannah Kerr). This is like a Christian fight song, guys. Almost every verse can be applied to those moments in Green Ember where all seemed lost.
3. It's Not Over Yet (For King and Country). "Keep on fighting, hope is rising." Sound familiar?
4. Burn the Ships (For King and Country). GUYS! WATCH THE MUSIC VIDEO!!! Um, BATTLE OF AYEMAN LAKE, ANYONE???? Seriously, when he lights all the explosives at the end? Or when they wash up on shore, looking back on the burning ship... AHHHHHHHH! ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ (Well, if you ignore the fact that point of the song is to leave the ship behind, which is the opposite of what Fleck does. Still...)
5. Hard Love (Needtobreathe). The whole song is mostly applicable, but mainly the part starting at 1:36. "When the wolves come and hunt me down..."
6. Joy (For King and Country) (There's something about them, huh?). This one is more for Heather and her stand for hope behind enemy lines. The pre-chorus suits her very well!
7. I just Need U (Tobymac). References to wolves, dark days... It sends off Picket vibes for me (hehe, especially the wolves!).
8. To the Dreamers (For King and Country) (Seriously? Them again?). This is for Heather. So, so, so Heather!!!! Almost every bit of it!! By far one of my favourites on this list!!! #ScribeoftheCause
9. The Elements (Tobymac). There's something about Toby that just bleeds battle cries! This one is for my hero, Picket Packslayer and his mentor, Helmer the Black. All of it. #PicketPackslayer #alwaysHelmer Also, this song is very close to my heart when it comes to GE because something that GE did for me was made me recognize the spiritual battle being waged in our world. #PrayOn This one makes me shiver, thinking of how many might go down swinging in Ember's End...
10. Be a King (Capital Kings). Okay, be fair everyone. These guys are THE BEST techno-pop artists. So, not only is this a great song for Smalls and Heather, but it's also just a great song. ๐ 'Sokay if it's not your style. I think it would be a great song for everyone's favourite ship, #Smaller. The combination of raising you voice for truth and fighting back against dark forces (not to mention becoming a king) is great mix for the two of them.
If you read this far, I really respect you. ;) I'm glad I finally got this post up here. I've meaning to do it forever. I hope you enjoyed it and listening to some great GE themed music! Here are a few songs from other book series that I just really love, for side listening.
- My Love Has Gone Across the Sea (WFS).
- Song of Durin (LoTR). My one warning with this one is that it has scenes from the movies in the video. If you're not comfortable with that, I would recommend just listening to it without watching the video.
- Arwen's Promise (LoTR Movie themed).
- Luthien's Lament (The Silmarillion). This is from a book of history that Tolkien wrote. The story may be mentioned in LoTR (I can't remember) but if it isn't, look in the description or read the book. It's long, but diehard fans will read it!
Let me know if the links don't work and comment below if you have any thoughts/song suggestions for this topic!

White Winter Hymnal by Fleet Foxes (the vibe of this song is a really good fit and also the themes of lost innocence and red scarves really remind me of GE)
That's all, hope you guys enjoy :))
How I missed this post being the music-obsessed person I am I have no idea, but here I am jumping on the bandwagon:
Heather
North- Sleeping At Last
Just kinda fits her vibe and has a bitter-sweet feel that seems very fitting, given her character.
WildFlowers- Maddie Poppe
Brave- Sara Barreilles
Book-1 Heather, mostly about speaking up, having a thick skin, and not letting people dominate who you are.
Enchanted- Taylor Swift
......there's probably gonna be at least one of her songs for each of them. I'm that person. SmallsxHeather song, duh.
Smalls
Uneven Odds- Sleeping At Last
just-here's the chorus;
Maybe your light is a seed
And the darkness, the dirt
In spite of the uneven odds
Beauty lifts from the earth
Just the entire song screams of him.
Brother-Kodaline
Found family vibes. Hardcore.
The Mute-Radical Face
just gives off his vibes.
King-Lauren Aquilina
Yes I know this has been mentioned already it's just that good.
Let Her Go-Passenger
I'm gonna let you guys figure this one out.
Picket
HARD LOVE-NEEDTOBREATHE
This is the epitome of book 1 Picket.
Leaves From the Vine-......just look it up on youtube. The cover by Annapantsu is the best one. The song's from the show Avatar the Last Airbender, and it's essentially about the cruelty of war. Just go look it up.
Emma
Keep Your Head Up Princess- Anson Seabra.
Yay. Another song about the loss of childhood innocnence, quite unsurprising it's found it's way onto my playlists.
The Anonymous Ones- Dear Evan Hanson
Weezie
Wild Things- Alessia Cara
Older- Devon Gabriella
Kylen
I'm surprised I even found music for him, but here ya go;
Happy-NF
General:
Empire- Beth Crowly. Screams of Garten Longtreader
Meet Me on the Battlefield- Svrcina
Angel By The Wings- Sia
Mad World- Jennifer Ann
Home- Dotan
This Will End- The Oh Hellos
That's all I got for today :)
Lauren Aquilina's "You Can Be King Again" could seriously be Smalls' theme song.
If You Were Mine by Fernando Ortega as maybe Smalls or Whittle to Heather.
"A Thousand Years" by Christina Perri reminds me of Smalls and Heather.
Rihannaโs โWe Found Loveโ seems like a good Smalls and Heather in the Dragon Tomb song. The yellow diamonds line also seems like a neat nod to the other jewels in the Crown of Flames. The dance music also seems like it could potentially fit a (non-gratuitous) sequence of Smalls and Heather mowing down the dragons.๐
Okay, we found Helmer a song.....come on guys!
The Highwaymen - Highwayman (W. Nelson, K. Kristofferson, W. Jennings, J. Cash) - YouTube
Okay, so we don't believe in reincarnation...but it's a good song....
Just listening to some of these songs... They haven't been on the radio recently and... I love these songs...
There's this song from Rend Collective which is so much like GE. Plus, they are literately carrying the flame in the video:
so theres a song, i forget the title and who sang it, just remember one line.....
"i am a warrior, i will survive!" [it's a christian song we hear on the radio all the time, surprising i don't remember more..]
I just recently found another Five Iron album, which I am really happy about, and a couple of the songs that made me think Green Ember. One of them was called See the Flames Begin to Crawl that made me think of Helmer. Especially where it says, "But you are the one, the spark that was spawned Who picks up the pieces, and passes it on." I can see him singing this to Picket before the last battle, if he was the singing type.
Also, there is a song called Cannonball that makes me think of Picket or maybe Jo, or maybe just the Fowlers in general. "hulking, smashing, i come crashing, nothing like when i was small. I am unstoppable, I am the cannonball. that feeble coward that you knew, has undergone an overhaul, I am unstoppable, I am the cannonball."
If y'all have seen an American Tale: the song Somewhere out There reminds me so so much of Pick and Heather, Whittle and Wilfred, etc....
i'm not gonna fear the storm- i don't know who wrote it but it so reminds me of GE
ookay.. so we got to listen to the French national anthem in history...
me: this is so GE!!
soo:
Le Marseilles. i can totally imagine marching to that one.
and the overture of 1812. it just reminded me.
We wonโt be Shaken โ Building 429
This song is so good and fits TGE...we heard it the other night while listening to a random Christian playlist....
Wont turn back by NEEDTOBREATHE, maybe? ๐คทโโ๏ธ
I was just listening to music and These Frail Hands by Brave Saint Saturn on and it just made me think of Green Ember.
Ok, these songs are PERFECT for the rabbits marching to war:
I was just listening to some music by Five Iron Frenzy and To Start a Fire started playing. It made me immediately think of Green Ember, not exactly sure who or what though. Also, We Own the Skies by Five Iron Frenzy kind of makes me think of Picket. All he left behind to try to protect those he cared about. Also, "we own the skies." Flying Picket, anyone?
Burn the ships is one of my favorite songs right now!!
There are a couple of songs that really make me think Green Ember.
- Boomerangs by Five Iron Frenzy (especially the second verse:
"No time left to eulogize,
yesterday can take care of yesterday.
Letโs raise our sails to the skies,
diving headfirst back into the fray.
Set your cadence to a different drum.
Set your sights on the horizon.")
- Begin Again by Brave Saint Saturn (especially the chorus:
"Fire comes and it burns the brush away
โฆrain comes down
Snow falling in a lifeless grey
โฆsun comes down
Something new comes cautiously from the dust
And spreads its limbs toward the heavens")
Allright. These are from Disney's The Lodge. It's a Disney Channel UK show, and if you have Disney+ watch it! It's really good! (a bit cheesy at times, but good!)
So,
If You Only Knew - Jade Alleyne (Kaylee in the show)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jEqaLM9zHk0
#Pemma
Believe That - Cast of the Lodge
The tune doesn't sound GE, but the lyrics do!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBoei2vILCc
Ceasefire (for KING & COUNTRY) Listen to this, think of Picket or Kalmar and thank me later.
For Heather and Smalls this song is so pretty!!!!
a thousand years lyrics - YouTube
This one for Picket and Weezie so pretty too!!!!!!!!
I Get to Love You By Ruelle - LYRIC VIDEO - YouTube
So....
This is Hamilton, but the end of Dear Theodosia. I don't have a link, but this seems like Jo to his kids. The our young nation, think Mended Wood. I love this song lol
My father wasn't around
My father wasn't around
I swear that I'll be around for you
I'll do whatever it takes
I'll make a million mistakes
I'll make the world safe and sound for you Will come of age with our young nation We'll bleed and fight for you, we'll make it right for you
If we lay a strong enough foundation We'll pass it on to you, we'll give the world to you And you'll blow us all away Someday, someday Yeah, you'll blow us all away Someday, someday
Okay this one if you worked with it a little could work for the Longtreaders.... @Willow got us listening to this artist....
We were listening to it for a book idea we had then Kayti was like, this could work for Garten or Picket and Heather....
Another song I just found, Undefeated from Tauren Wells really fits GE as well.
I think this was mentioned already, if so, I just want to heartily agree that To the Dreamers (For King and Country) goes very well with GE. It's a great song.
Some of these were already mentioned, but anyway, I never did a whole list of songs that remind me of GE, so here...
Embers - Owl City - just total GE vibes all around
Hope for It - Cimorelli - the vibe and themes in this song go so well with GE
Wake Me Up - Avicii - as @The Fowlers said, it goes with Picket really well!
I Got You - Cimorelli - a really sweet song... the theme of this song reminds me of #Peezie and #Heals
From Now On - Greatest Showman - I don't know, somehow it just FITS. Maybe not for a specific person, although maybe Kyle would go best with the lyrics.
This Mountain - Faouzia - themes of perseverance that remind me of the fight for the Mended Wood
My Love have Gone Across the Sea - Wingfeather Saga/Andrew Peterson - I've always loved this song, and my siblings and I came up with some cool harmonies for it so we often sing it together. Maybe Heather and Smalls fit this the best.
Just found some more!
Live Like Legends - Ruelle: Listen to this, think of TGE, and thank me later. I had goosebumps all throughout.
Game of Survival - Ruelle: Again, I had fight scenes flashing through my head.
I don't think I've mentioned either of these yet...
- "Carry the Fire" by Andrew Peterson: It has a lot of Bible-specific imagery that doesn't correlate precisely with GE, but the theme is very fitting, plus "Carry the Fire" and "Bear the Flame" are basically synonymous.
- "Liar" by The Arcadian Wild (heheh, I'm a fan, if you couldn't tell): today I was listening to it and it made me think of Kyle/Kylen, and the inner turmoil I think he had over his deception.
This is a great song for Picket! Just found it today, new favorite....lol...
No idea how I didn't ever see this before! And I have a list...
Warrior - Aurora: This is so Heather. I practically screamed when I read the lyrics.
Meet Me on the Battlefield - Svrcina: This can apply to the series as a whole, but I like to think of it as the Fowlers' song. Just change "human race" to "rabbit race" and it works.
Beautiful Life - Bebe Rexha: #Heals. Do I need say anything more?
End Of Time - Alan Walker: This just has TGE vibes.
Dynasty - Miia: This fits the GartenSweenWhittle thing.
A Million Dreams - The Greatest Showman: This is my go to song for when I want to try and describe Emma in my head.
Anything Andrew Peterson! You name one and I can relate it to GE.
Maroon 5โs Memories could have been written by Picket in the last chapters of Emberโs End.
Also Set Me Ablaze and Worth Fighting For from the Newsboys
Another for King & Country song, Without You reminds me a lot of Heather and Smalls.
So I heard Peter Gabrielโs โIn Your Eyesโ while driving recently, and got some real #Peezie vibes. Ignoring the car reference early in the song, it seems to fit Picketโs observations of and feelings towards Weezie in Ember Rising and Emberโs End.
Heh heh...maybe the reason Sween turned Gartenโs proposal down was because he started by serenading her with Duran Duranโs Hungry Like the Wolf.
Together - For King and Country, itโs great for EE... fits it perfectly!
Especially the chorus where they say if โif we rise we will rise together,if we fall we will fall together.โ
Oh, and the last lines are good, but overall the whole song is great!!!
Still Rolling Stones - Lauren Dโaigle might have spelt that wrong...
Hey Brother - Avici its a really good song and works so well
Wake me Up - Avici serious Picket vibes for the last book...
K
There Folk correct?
Hmm never heard of them. Iโll check them out.
Strange that I never commented on this... Well, better late than never, or something. -"The Dark Before the Dawn" by Andrew Peterson: aside from the similarly-titled chapter from EF, this song has a very strong thematic connection to GE. -"Whispers" by The Arcadian Wild: slander, rumors, distrust... fits pretty well with GE. Also reminds me of The Heir of Mistmantle. -"Roots" by The Arcadian Wild: makes me think of (controversy alert) Picket and Weezie. "A broken heart is broken earth, the soil's rich and it gives birth to new life...". Also, the only other time I've heard the term "fallow fields." -"Rain Clouds" by (you guessed it) The Arcadian Wild: also reminds me of Picket, his internal struggle, and finding healing in friends and community. Same thing with "The Graduate." Was that all just an excuse for me to hype about The Arcadian Wild? Probably. But it's good music.
Why can I not type?
Country. Why can I not time. lol
I have thought of Burn the Ships like that before. Never really thought about Tobymac's songs though he's my favorite artist. For King and County are my second favorite. Hannah Kerr is great. Capital Kings are decent. I love To the Dreamers too. It's so awesome.
I've heard most of these, and I totally agree with you! Especially "It's Not Over Yet", "Burn the Ships", and "Joy".
