Okay, so we all know this, but what about taking how everyone thought all the Longtreaders were bad because one was and turning it into a discussion. You mention a fact that is commonly spread about where you live and then give the real facts....
This will debunk many myths and be kind of fun, we'll go first..
some people say that the mountains of CO are always covered in snow. they're not. actually, most of the time they are quite warm....
@The Fowlers that's cool! The only one in my family who hasn't read it is in California and is graduating from college, but I have gotten about 3 of my friends to read them and love them!
@The Fowlers I have two older brothers in California right now, and one younger brother here. I got my dad to read it aloud to everyone and we just finished the second book, so I think they're enjoying it.
Yeah same, but I've finally gotten my family (mainly my dad) hooked onto the series now. I think they are pretty sick of me always talking about it though...lol...
I am definitely enjoying it. I love to see others with the same passion for TGE as me discuss and debate on things, and everyone has been very welcoming, especially you guys @The Fowlers. Thanks so much!
@Scribe of the Cause How you enjoying the site?
Also, I really liked that quote you said @Artham. It is the truth many people need to hear today.
@Artham I totally agree with all you said. I've been homeschooled all my life too, and almost every person where we live now in Wales, Great Britain, go to public school and find homeschooling odd. I also agree that not all homeschoolers are the smartest people and some are crazy, but I disagree with people that say homeschoolers are usually more socially awkward.
Not all Christians are stuck up and annoying.
I know a lot of Christians who think they are better and more moral than other people. But I'm not that way, I'm completely flawed and full of sin and no better than anybody else.
To quote Rich Mullins “I think I would rather live on the verge of falling and let my security be in the all-sufficiency of the grace of God than to live in some pietistic illusion of moral excellence. Not that I don't want to be morally excellent but my faith isn't in the idea that I'm more moral than anybody else. My faith is in the idea that God and His love are greater than whatever sins any of us commit.”
Homeschoolers can range from the kids that are too smart for public school to the ones who got kicked out of public school. You can have the people who get private tutors, just use public school textbooks, or classically educate. You have the ones who are legalistic, and the ones who let their kids do whatever they want.
Homeschoolers really don't fit into a box. (Neither can any other type of schooling, really. But especially homeschooling)
@Artham have to agree with you there. we homeschool to. definitely not all the smartest And seen some crazy ones To.
Not all homeschoolers are smart.
Just saying, I've been around a lot of crazy homeschoolers who insist that homeschoolers are all smart, but I know a lot of homeschoolers who are the most illogical people ever, lol.
Btw, I've been homeschooled my entire life.
This is not a place-related thing, but I would also like to point out that homeschoolers are not socially inept. You can be fine with people and still be homeschooled.
I am from New Zealand, and even though farming is a big industry here, 86.9%(I just looked this up) of the population lives in urban areas. It's also annoying when people confuse us with Australia. It's like saying that Canada is the same as the USA.
I am obsessed with Lord of the Rings, though
That’s cool that it’s a Cherokee word.
We are not all Amish or Mennonite in Lancaster County and its pronounced Lang-kissed-her, not Lan-cas-ter.
I don't think Illinoisans are very unique, we just kind of live. I wish we were more distinguishable. We don't really even have an accent. Do we? lol At least I can talk about country life.
1. Country homesteads are often pretty gross. It's real stereotype that we didn't know existed until we moved...thankfully my mom has high expectations of cleanliness for us, so our house is pretty comfortable. And 2. It is true that country neighbors are hyper friendly. They'll stop by your house and subject you to a three hour long visit without any warning and they'll wave when driving past you even if they don't know you. :)
One last thing: farmers can talk nonstop about their farm, what things they just bought, etc. That might be obvious, as anyone can talk nonstop about their hobbies, but it's a real thing with farmers, and as a bonus it's really boring! 😂
Okay so tv has a habit of giving a bad impression of southerners. We are portrayed as little hillbillies who don't know anything, we find that very offensive....
Southerners are no different than anyone else, we go to school and do everything normal people do, grant it we use some funny words and we use a lot of conjunctions, But that doesn't mean we're not smart, our brother is actually going to school for electrical engineering, so you know...
Who's next?
