After Ella was finished untangling Willum's bowstring and then stringing the bow for father she ate the delectable breakfast mother had prepared for her. When she was finished with breakfast she helped mother clean up and said goodbye to Father who was leaving to sign papers for the King.
Ella quickly did all her household chores to help mother and after she was done she headed towards Sarah's house for the sleepover, that is after she drew the wonderful scenery from this morning.
Ella walked through the busy street of First Warren doing her best not to run into anyone which was hard since rabbits were everywhere, and she meant everywhere. The crowd was so thick in some places that she had to squeeze or slid between people just so that she could keep walking, so she would get to Sarah's house on time. Ella had hoped she could get there before Maraly but somehow she didn't think that that was going to happen, especially since Maraly had a shortcut through the woods. So unfair, Ella thought as she bumped into a tall brown rabbit who was standing in the middle of town.
Ella stumbled, she would have kept her balance if it wasn't for the long skirt of her dress which caused her to trip and fall. Ella cursed under her breath, then she looked up at the rabbit, he wasn't even looking at her.
"Watch it there would ya!" She said as she waited for the rabbit to turn around and apologize but he never did. Ella rolled her eyes as she stood to her feet and dusted her dress, which was covered in dust, off. She then looked around and noticed that this rabbit wasn't the only rabbit that seemed to be frozen and watching something, so were all of the other rabbits in town. They all had wide eyes with a look of terror on their faces. Ella wondered what was going on around here today? Why did the rabbits seem to be in shock? What was going on here was the real question. Why were they all in shock in the first place? That's when she realized that the best thing to do was to see what in the world is going on, which would be by asking.
She stood on her tiptoes and gently hit the tall brown rabbit, that she ran into, on the shoulder. "Excuse me sir, but would you be so kind as to tell me what is going on here?" Ella said. She then waited for an answer from the buck, but the answer never came and the buck never even turned to face her. That's when Ella really begin to wonder what was going on around here? Everyone was usually very friendly in First Warren and would give you an answer, today it seemed different, but why?
She slowly shook her head as she guessed that she would have to find out herself. She squeezed her small, slender form between the tall brown buck and another buck which was white in color.
"Excuse me," she said as she squeezed past them, trying to remain kind. It was beginning to get pretty hard, especially since no one would move out of the way, not even the slightest bit. It bothered Ella something awful. Anger started to boil inside her like a bubbling cauldron. She squeezed past more rabbits just so that she could get a glimpse of what everyone was staring at.
"Excuse me. Please move. Pardon me," she said. She bumped into several rabbits that seemed to be still frozen and focused on whatever they were staring at. Ella nearly froze at what she saw after she bumped into a doe with a child, she didn't apologize to the doe with the child because her eyes were focused on a site that was awful. It was the worst image she had ever seen in her entire life, and she wished so much that hadn't seen it for it made her stomach want to flip. She tried to take her eyes away from the image but found that it was impossible to take them from the site.
Ella watched every movement of the young buck carrying another buck soaked in blood. There was so much blood on the buck being carried that you couldn't get even the slightest glimpse of his fur color. It was awful. Blood dripped down from the body leaving a trail on the ground. Ella looked at the young buck that was carrying the other one, his face was full of worry. Ella could tell from this distance that the buck was quite handsome with misty gray fur with lighter gray spots and emerald green eyes. Long scars went across his left eye and he wore black clothes along with a black cloak, the main point was he was wearing all black and had a battleax strapped to his back. He looked to be a little older than her, but looks can be deceiving, at least that's what mother said.
She turned her head as the buck walked up onto the porch of the hospital. He knocked on the porch with his foot. Ella was expecting someone to come out and help him, but no one did. She watched as the buck turned around, looking frantic with the same worried look on his face, only this time it was worse.
"Someone help me, my brother is dying. Please, he needs a doctor or he's not gonna make it!"
Ella looked around wondering if anyone would step up and help the young buck. No one did. She watched tears roll down the buck's face as he sank to his knees on the porch, holding the bloody rabbit close to his chest.
"I know there is a good rabbit somewhere in here. What if this was your brother or sister or child or wife or husband or whatever that was about to die, what if those rabbits didn't help you? What if they just stared at you? Would that make you feel sad? Yes, it would because you love that person and you don't want to lose that person! Please, I'm asking you to help my brother, not me. Someone, anyone, I don't care who it is just..." He called again.
Ella looked around, once again there was still no movement from any rabbits. She looked up at the deep blue sky and said in a whisper only she could hear, "Maker, You have to help him! You are this boy's only hope." She looked toward the buck once again, he was sobbing and his whole body shook. That's when she heard the far-off voice of the Maker say, "You Ella, are the one to help, trust me and I will guide you."
Ella took a deep breath and said, in a soft, calming voice, "I will help you."
Right when she said that the door to the hospital came open and medics rushed around the young buck and his brother. "Thank You, Maker," Ella whispered.
I love how you tied these parts together. That's so beautiful and touching.
That was beautiful!!! Great job! I love Ella... She is just awesome!!!!
