Caspian cried out as a vibration of pain shot up and down his arm and the angry ways of fire grew and consumed more of his arm. Trails of tears poured from his eyes as the fire begin to burn through his flash causing more pain to tear through his arm. He let the screams escape him as the fire burnt through his shoulder making its way up towards his face.
Pain, pain, pain, that was all that could enter his mind. Agonizing pain went straight through him. Caspian knew at this rate he would probably never be able to use his arm again or worse he wouldn't even have an arm. More and more screams escaped from him followed by floods of tears. He needed help.
He heard someone yell through the sounds of the crackling fire and fallen beams hitting the floor. The house was already starting to fall apart. Caspian could now hear the voice much clearer because it was closer. The pain bolted through him making him wail. Another scream broke from Caspian as the fire was inches away from his neck, only this time it was a yell for help. He heard the voice say, "I know, I know, I know, but I don't know how."
Caspian turned his head the best he could to see a doe as the fire still seared his flesh, the doe was just a few inches away from him her green eyes filled with terror. Tears spilled from her eyes soaking the golden fur of her cheeks. Caspian saw the doe Maraly still laying on the floor where he had pushed her out of the way, she held the same look in her eyes as the other doe.
Caspian let another scream escape him as he smelled the awful stench of his flesh burning. "Help me, please!" Caspian cried out again.
"I don't know what to do," the doe said as the tears came harder. Caspian tightly clenched his teeth to keep from screaming, his teeth were clenched so hard it felt like his jaw would lock. All the pain made it hard for him even to get a word in, "I need you to get the beam off and put the fire out using the sheets and the covers from the bed. I need you to hurry though!" Caspian said as he closed his eyes and let more tears fall.
The doe was still standing there. "Now! You are the only one who can help, I need help now!" Caspian yelled out with the growing anger waves of tears flowing from his eyes as he took a deep breath.
The doe looked towards the Maraly and said, "Come on, I need your help Maraly, quickly get to your feet." The doe and Maraly hurried in the directions of the beds, hopefully, they could find something that would help him.
A few seconds later the golden doe and Maraly came back with blankets and sheets. The golden doe's eyes were still wide with terror. Now what?" She asked.
Caspian clenched his teeth again to keep from screaming as he spoke, "Sit on the floor." The does nodded and obeyed. "Okay. Now you wrap the sheet around your feet. Make sure it's thick, when you have that done I need you to push the beam off of my arm. There's nothing to worry about you shouldn't get burned, hopefully, you'll just feel some of the heat. But hurry or there's gonna be nothing left of my arm." Caspian winced as another scream escaped.
The golden doe got to work, fast. "Ready?" Caspian said.
"I think so," she replied.
"Counted to three and push the beam off. One. Two. Three." Caspian yelled out.
The golden doe lashed out with her feet and pushed the beam off of Caspian's arm. Some of the pain went away but some of the fire was still on his arm as being tried to roll to put the fire out but his arm wouldn't move with him. Maraly ran over with another sheet and started to hit his arm with the sheet until the fire was out. Caspian laid there still in pain for a while until he heard a loud cracking noise. Maraly looked around then her eyes widened bigger than they were before.
"The house is falling apart!" she yelled.
Caspian still laid on the floor as he said, through waves of pain, "You were breaking the window, right?"
Maraly turned towards him her eyes wide. "What?"
"I said you were breaking the window, right? When I got here, when the beam was falling, before that you were breaking the window, right?"
"Yes. Yes, she was," the golden doe said with a little bit of hope in her voice.
"Don't get your hopes up," Caspian said gasping for air, "is that area on fire?" He begged the Maker that it wasn't on fire.
Maraly turned her head to where the window was and said, "Clear, for now. But a few beams and stuff have fallen around it. If we're going to get out we need to get out now." She then added, "and fast."
"Then pull me up," Caspian said.
Maraly nodded as she gently put Caspian's good arm around her shoulders. Maraly carried most of his weight as he stood up. Caspian leaned against her side as they slowly walked towards the broken window, the other doe right behind them. When they reached the window Caspian looked at Maraly and the other doe, he was about to speak when he heard Maraly say in a worried voice, "Wait, where's Ella?" Maraly frantically started to look around. A loud piercing scream split the air. A scream that came from a doe.
Caspian's heart raced fiercely against his chest as he heard Maraly and the other doe call out, "That's Ella!"
The golden doe's eyes grew big as they rested on something. "Oh no."
Caspian followed her gaze and there for a minute he actually thought his heart stopped racing. "Don't tell me she's in there," Caspian said in a whisper.
"Ella! No, no, no!" Tears rain down the doe's face as she ran off towards the ring of fire where Ella was trapped inside. Maraly tried to follow the other doe but Caspian grabbed her arm with his good hand and pulled her to face him.
She looked at him with wide eyes. "Let Go of me!" she cried as a wave of tears poured from her eyes and she struggled to get free of his grip.
Caspian tightened his grip as he said, "No, you need to get out of here. I'll help the other doe. Get out! If we don't make it we at least need one rabbit to live today," Caspian said with a quiver in his voice.
"I can't, I can't do that," she said.
"I don't blame you for not wanting to go but it's for the best, please," Caspian said as he loosened his grip.
Maraly slowly nodded her head as she walked towards the window and starting to climb out. Before she did she took one more glance at Caspian and said, "Please be careful, and please make sure that they all get out of here safe."
Caspian managed a fake smile as he said, "I promise."
With that Maraly jumped from the window. Caspian's heart started racing again only this time with fear that he couldn't keep his promise to Maraly, or himself. Caspian ran toward the blaze where the golden doe was beating at the flames with a sheet. Caspian picked up his own sheet to use.
After a while, they got the fire out around Ella who lay limply on the floor. A few beams lay on the floor around her. He couldn't believe what he saw, a beam was laying right beside her perfectly in line to hit her, but somehow it hadn't. Caspian knew for a fact that that had to be a miracle. A miracle from the Maker himself. The other thing was she looked unharmed besides that she was passed out. She was alive because her heart slowly raced up and down.
Caspian looked up and whispered, "Thank you, Maker." Caspian knelt down beside Ella and gently slapped her face to get her awake. After a while of doing this, she slowly opened her eyes and started coughing as she put her hand on her throat. Caspian heard Ella faintly say, "Get me out of here, I need air. I need air, I need air, please, please, please."
The golden doe went over to her and wrapped her in a hug. "It's okay, Ella. We're gonna get you out of here right now, okay? Everythings going to be all right, you're going to be fine. I'm sorry I left you, I'm so, so sorry."
Ella kept repeating the same thing, "Can't breathe, can't breathe. Please, get me out of here. Please, please." Over and over again only every time she spoke it got fainter and fainter.
"Let's get out of here," Caspian said as he went to help the other doe get Ella up. Ella leaned most of her weight on Caspian and hid her head in his shoulder as they carefully made their way towards the window. The beams began to fall causing fire to start near the window.
They reached the window and the first one to go out was Ella, which Maraly helped. Then Sarah went and Caspian was the last one. The moment he jumped from the window was the moment when the whole house collapsed in angry flames of fire. Caspian fell to the ground and cried out as a pain shot through his arm.
Maraly ran over to him and helped him to his feet and for the first time, Caspian looked around with wide eyes along with the others. They all stood there in horror, with racing hearts. Caspian could hear the sound of all of their hearts racing it was so fast. Their eyes rested on four large, angry wolves with glowing red eyes, fur raised into spikes, and their bloody jaws ready to snatch them up. They were coming their way and just when Caspian thought they were out of danger they were not this wasn't the end.
Oh my word! I am amazed! I think they're all going to survive! Even Caspian! I thought for sure he was dead! Thank you, Rissy!!
