So i got chapter one finished today!!!!!!!!!

Jupie ran. Cold was biting his face and ears and the harsh wind whipped around his ears. He skidded to a stop in front of Ayman Lake, heart beating quickly. At the edge of the lake, the snow was flattened by footsteps and covered in ice.

The sun was setting on the horizon, lighting the once dull and cloudy sky in bright colors. The clouds were reflecting orange, red, and yellow, lighting the lake with spectacular light.

Jupie poked at the ice, his fingers numb with cold. Tears dripped from is eyes and onto the freezing ice. He perked up as he heard the crunching of snow behind him.

“Jupie, what are you doing out here?” Fleck asked, wincing as he sat on the snow next to Jupie.

“I’m useless.” He sobbed.

“Is this about the mines?” Fleck asked.

“I betrayed you.” Jupie sobbed.

“What?”

“If i- why do I always to things wrong?” Jupie asked, sniffing.

“No, you don’t. If that were the case, I suppose you wouldn’t have been able to save Pike like you did.” Fleck said, wrapping his cloak around Jupie and cradling his injured arm.

“But…” Jupie began.

“I’ve got to go.” Fleck said, running off.

Jupie sighed and walked out onto the thin ice. He heard a small crack, then thousands of little cracks. The ice began to crumble, throwing Jupie into the turmoil chaos of Ayman Lake.

As Jupie wondered how this day could get any worse, he saw a large raptor with white feathers and piercing golden eyes. His beak was long and sharp, dangerously sharp, and his claws were like blades.

Jupie found himself being gently fished from the water by the enormous bird. He thought for a panicked moment, then his vision faded into darkness.

Jupie coughed, opening his eyes. Fleck was crouched worriedly next to him, his brown eyes wild with panic. He sighed when he saw Jupie was awake.

“That raptor saved you, Jupie.” He said.

Jupie coughed.

“I wonder why.” Fleck wondered, rubbing his broken arm.
