Okay, yes boy rabbits are bucks, but dead man sounded better to me. Anyway, sorry this isn't Rissy's fanfic, she will post it tomorrow, didn't have time for editing today, sorry guys. He fell. Down and down and down. A fall that felt like it would never end. A fall that was haunted by the thoughts of the deeds he had committed. Of the lies he had spoken. Of the shame he had brought upon himself, and his family name. But most of all the guilt. The guilt that had been eating at him for years, now finally consuming him. He had thought he was doing what was right, making his own name, but no. All he had done was destroy his family name and himself. He saw that now as he fell towards his death. Oh, the irony.

He had never been able to look it in the eye before. Never been able to put his finger on what was bothering him, but now he had found it. He had found it now when he could no longer fix it. Soon it would be over. Soon he would no longer have to deal with himself. What had he done? Squandered his life for an unworthy cause, ended the life of a noble buck, lied to a friend till the end. Oh, what un-noble deeds he had wrought.

He wished he could go back and undo the acts, but life sure didn’t work like that. He had betrayed his only friend, betrayed his true king, and even betrayed the memory of his family. Oh, the weight of the name that had fallen to him. Oh, what a burden it had been. It had been heavy but not as heavy as this. No, not nearly as heavy as the guilt he now carried.

He hit the ground so far below. He hit it with an awful crunch. The pain that shot through him could not be explained, but the pain inside was what hurt so much. He could not push aside the looks of disapproval and disappointment that had been thrown at him. They had burned into his mind like a brand on his soul.

Oh, why? Oh, why had he ruined his life? Squandered it trying to save his own hide. The mistakes of a fool, he told himself. Mistakes of a fool.

Oh well.

He lay there on the ground, not a friend to be found. No, he had betrayed them all, left them to die. Oh, what a fool. What a fool he had been. If only he had one more chance, he should not so unjustly live. If given a chance, a pardon from death. Oh, what a different life he would live. No more treachery for him, no lying to them. He would live his life an honest man. Oh, but the deeds he had done they gnawed at him. He did not deserve life, no, only death. For had he not taken the life of a buck in his prime. He moaned as he wrestled with his mind and waited for his end to finally greet him.

A shadow across him did span, a shadow of someone from his past. He looked up into the face of the one who was saving him one question in mind, Why?

He did not deserve this; he should die. But this buck seemed to care for him. No, he even seemed to cry. He tried to explain with what breath he had, the deeds he had done, the lies, and the acts. But the buck only silenced him and told him to hush all was in the past.

Lie still, rest easy, and soon all will be well. Those were the words spoken to him, and he listened and hoped they were true.
