Nightmares filled Alan's dreams. He tossed and turned in his bed, trying to shake them away. But they wouldn't go away. They haunted him. He saw his father standing over him as he lay on the ground, unable to move. His father stepped closer, a small bottle in his hand. Alan tried to wake up but, he couldn't. His father came closer and closer. Alan felt his head beginning to bleed, and he wanted to get away.
"If it isn't the little freak, you're coming with me, freak! Your mine! Come on, let's go freak before anyone else gets hurt." His father grabbed him.
"NO!" Alan jolted up, breathing hard, a sharp pain shooting down his leg. He clenched his teeth against the pain and looked around the room. Everyone was still sleeping. He shook his head; what was going on with him? He had never dreamed like that before; it had just started a few days ago. He sighed. He was already awake so; he might as well change the wrap on his leg.
He grabbed a wrap from beside the bed. David had got the wraps the other day after he had brought Grace in and had let her change the wrap against Alan's will. Alan huffed that had been unfair. David had held him down, and Grace had changed the wrap. Alan had finally convinced David that he didn't need a doctor. So, David had brought the bandages so Alan could do it himself, which suited Alan just fine. David had brought wraps and ointments, which the doctors said would keep his leg from becoming infected. But Alan didn't use the ointments. He wasn't going to use anything that came from the hospital, so he used water instead. Water worked just fine for cleaning the wound.
Alan started unwrapping his leg, his teeth clenched. He threw the old wrap aside and grabbed a cloth from a small bucket beside his bed and started to clean his leg. It hurt to clean it, but he did it anyway. Once he finished, he set the cloth back in the bucket of water and grabbed a new wrap. He then slowly wrapped his leg, tying it off so that it was tight.
Once he was done, he leaned back and laid down, but he was afraid to go back to sleep. Then finally, after what felt like forever, the other bucks began to wake up.
David came over to him. "Did you change your wrap?"
Alan nodded, "Yep."
David smiled at him. "Have you been using the ointments the doctors gave you?" David asked.
Alan nodded. "Yeah, sure," he said it was a lie, but he knew if he told David that he wasn't using the ointments, then he would get upset and worried, so he had to lie.
David nodded. "Good, I thought you might not use them. But I'm glad you are."
Alan turned his head away slightly, hoping to hide the guilt that he knew was in his eyes.
"Well, I'm going to go get some food. Do you mind to watch the little ones for us? They are still sleeping so..." David said, trailing off.
Alan shrugged, "I don't mind."
David smiled. "Thank you, Alan. I'll be back soon." And with that, David and all the other older bucks left, leaving Alan alone with a bunch of sleeping kids.
He felt something grab his arm, and he jerked away, but then he saw who it was. It was just Zeke. Alan looked at Zeke, then said, "Aren't you supposed to be in bed?"
Zeke nodded. "I am, but I had a bad dream, and I can't go backs to sleep. So, can I talk with you? I'm bored."
Alan sighed, then patted the side of his bed. "Fine, come on."
Zeke smiled, then hopped up. Alan smiled; he liked Zeke. And though Zeke was younger than him, he felt like they were going to be great friends.
Okay, hope you guys liked it!
