I already have a chapter up for today but I have nothing to do today so I might be posting a few... Hope you enjoy...
They had arrived, or at least Fritz thought. The scent of apple pie ligured in the air as a small cafe came into sight. Fritz could hear yelling from inside and he grew weary of the place immediately. But his knees were about to give way, and Esme needed help as soon as possible. He burst into the small den and was overwhelmed by the sound of pots and pans clanging noisily. Esme jumped slightly, tearing the fabric away from her face with a scowl. She seemed to realize they were around other rabbits and she pushed Fritz away, standing shakily. Esme looked at him and he could see what she was asking so he steadied her with his hand so she could stand easier. She smiled softly and they looked around. At least forty rabbits sat at tables around the small inn. None of them even glanced at Fritz and Esme as they tramped over to a table for two. As soon as they had sat down a thin buck, with wide eyes and ruffled fur scrambled over to them, two dishes in his hands. He set the plates on the table with a clatter before rushing back to the kitchen. The frantic yelling paused a minute and Fritz glanced at Esme, then the food in front of them. A piece of bread and soup, delicious. He picked up his spoon uncertainty, stealing another glance at Esme. She was looking at the food in front of her with a slight smile on her face. “What?” he asked her. “Oh.” She looked up at him, the smile never leaving her face. “On the road we never ate anything beside bread and I had said I could never eat another piece. Now I’m not so sure I keep my word.” Her eyes met his and he smiled back at her. Esme opened her mouth to speak but suddenly a buck was in front of them. He was NOT skinny, not compared to anyone Fritz had ever seen. His grey fur was covered in sweat and he looked like a head chef. He took one look at Esme and his eyes widened in shock. “Oh dear! Are you alright!” He asked her, and Fritz remembered how sick Esme was. “No!” he interrupted before she could speak. “She is not fine, we need to see a doctor as soon as we can!”
“Yes sir!” the buck said, and as he waddled away quickly he pushed Esme's plate closer to her, implying that she should eat. A minute later two doe’s came rushing over. One was around Fritz and Esme’s age, her fur was a plain grey and her eyes were the same shade, her brow was furrowed with worry. The other doe was much smaller, she looked only to be about the age that Cara would be if she were still alive. Her fur was an amber shade and she had white spots. She did not bear a satchel, only a small handbag that had wraps inside. They stopped abruptly in front of the table and both of their faces were shocked at the state of Esme. The grey doe composed herself first. “Emma hand me the note.” The doe nodded quickly and shoved a piece of paper into the grey nurses hand. Fritz got to his feet, then helped Esme to hers ignoring her pained expression at being helped. “You must be Esme deeth?”
“Yes ma’am.”
“Come with us immediately. You are in grave danger.”
Esme swallowed “Yes ma’am. Can Fritz come too?”
The doe sized Fritz up before nodding. “Come.” She rushed away to a door that Fritz hadn’t noticed and opened it. “Go to the third room on your right, go down the hall until you see a flight of stairs. There is a hidden room that you will need to knock on three times. We will meet you there in a bit.”
“Wait!” Fritz called, as they began to walk away. “What are you doing and why do we need to go to this secret room?”
The doe’s face grew solemn. “With a head injury like that Esme here could die any second. She needs to go under immediate surgery, which happens to be the most dangerous surgery .”
