Fane BlackStar leaned against the iron bars of the cell, his eyes roving over every detail of his captives. A grin gradually spread across his dark-furred face.

“Well, looky here. Looks like I’ve captured the whole royal family…At least what’s left,” Fane said, as he threw his head back and laughed, an unnatural gravelly laugh.

Hanna's jaw set. “You will not get away with this BlackStar!”

Fane cocked his head at her. “But don’t you see I already have,” he said, as he turned and walked away.

“You coward!” Hanna spat.

Fane spun around, but a smile was on his face, as he said. “I think, I would leave that saying for the one behind the bars. Don’t you think princess? Hm?”

Hanna's face hardened, but she didn’t say anything more, as Fane disappeared into the darkness.

“What do we do now?” Maylie asked in a soft voice.

“We have to get out of here and finish what we came here to do,” Hanna said, as she started looking for anything that might help them escape.

Hanna looked for several minutes, but with no luck.

“You could help, you know?” Hanna turned to her cousins. Maylie and Niles were already looking, but Jo wasn’t. Instead of doing anything useful, Jo was just sitting in a corner his arms wrapped around his knees.

“Do you want to help us get out of here? Or are you just going to sit there and rot?” Hanna asked, her hands on her hips.

Jo shrugged. “I would rather die here, then pretend that there is hope for my families lives, when I know it is hopeless to hope,” Jo said his voice cracking.

“What a gallant hero you are Jo,” Hanna said flatly, as she started searching again.

“There’s nothing here,” Maylie said, kicking at a pile of dust.

“Geez, Maylie! Come on!” Niles sputtered, coughing and dusting dirt off of him.

Maylie winced. “Sorry Ni.”

Someone giggled.

Niles looked at both of the girls. “It isn’t funny.”

Maylie frowned. “That wasn’t me.”

“Me neither,” Hanna said, holding up a finger.

“Looks like you all could use a hand,” a doe’s voice said, as two vibrant blue eyes appeared on the other side of the cell.

Hanna stepped backward.

“No, no we do not, not from you BlackStar,” Hanna spat.

“I’m not like him,” Saige BlackStar said. “You know, there are other BlackStars, we're not all evil like Fane.”

“Yet, you stay with him, after everything he’s done,” Hanna said an edge to her voice.

“Because he’s my brother!” Saige yelled, then she said more calmly. “I promised my parents I would never leave my brother’s side and that’s exactly what I aim to do. Because no matter how much bad he has done, he is still my little brother, capeesh?”

Hanna snorted. “How do I know your not just here to let us out, so Fane has a reason to kill us?”

“I guess your just going to have to trust me,” Saige said.

“I will never trust you,” Hanna said coolly.

“To bad,” Saige said, as she pulled a set of keys out of her cloak. “Here,” She said, as she threw the keys to Niles who caught them. “Oh, and I believe these are y’alls?” She kicked a stack of weapons just outside of the cell.

“Thank you,” Niles said.

“No problem. Oh, and one more, thing can you do me the favor of not telling Fane how you got out?”

When Niles nodded, Saige started to leave, but she stopped and turned around.

“You know Hanna, I always thought we could be friends when I was little and now I only dream that we might have been friends…In another time.”

Hanna said nothing.

Saige nodded and with a sigh she disappeared.

“That was rude of you Hanna,” Niles said. “She was only trying to help.”

“Your young Niles,” Hanna said, as she took the keys from him. “I wouldn’t expect you to understand.”

“Excuse me?” Niles said, stepping forward, but Maylie held him back.

“Don’t,” she said softly.

Hanna opened the cell and they all filed out, even Jo. Figures, Hanna thought. They all gathered their weapons and when they were all set Hanna said. “Now, let’s go finish this, let’s go find us a Booker.”
