The debate of the ages: Who is best for Picket?
It started off looking very much like Picket was undoubtedly going to end up with Emma, while Heather with Kyle or someone. But taking recent events into account, including the revelation that Emma is Smalls’ sister, we all must agree (however unpleasant that admission may be for you) that the horizons have shifted. It seems, if all goes to plan, that Heather will end up with Smalls. So, the huge question always lurking in the back of our minds has now become—does Picket belong with Emma or with Weezie, and why?
Your thoughts?
Everyone made great points in this discussion! (And, people who are not involved in this debate, we are sorry for spamming everything up. I apologize for all involved.)
I am a tad late to the party, and I think everyone knows which side I take (For those who don't, three words: Down with Weezie.)
I can totally see how someone would, ya know, ship Picket and Weezie. I've thought about it some, and now I think I know my main objection to the whole #Peezie thing.
If she wasn't attached to Picket romantically, I'd be fine with her. But that's all- she'd just be fine. Not exceptional in any way.
When I was reading Ember Rising for the first time, I disliked Peezie from the start. Why?
Because it felt contrived. It was like S. D. had realized just a little too late that there would be something that would make it weird for Emma and Pick to get together (IDK what, maybe a weird family relation or something? Who knows what he has up his sleeve?) and so was like, "Um, forget everything that I implied about Pick and Emma in the last two books, here's a love interest, let's just crop her up out of nowhere and make her perfect in every single way, and after a few days of doing, IDK, Resistance things, let's have them go all boyfriend-girlfriend on us! And boom, the plot is solved!"
I'm pretty sure that's not what he meant to do, but that's what it seemed like to me.
If Peezie happened, it just wouldn't have the depth of #Emmet. There wouldn't be the backstory and history of Emmet, the slow blooming of friendship into love.
My two cents worth, call me if you need anything.
(Well, don't actually call me, cuz that would be creepy, but ya know. Just @ me.)
