“All hail the…wait, who are we hailing again??”
The leadership of the rabbits against Morbin has taken one wonky turn after another throughout our so-far three-book series. We began knowing Jupiter as king, then Lord Rake, then Smalls, then Bleston, then Emma as queen, and now we might be circling back around to Smalls! With the last chapter of Ember Rising, we discovered that our best and favorite prince is alive. What will this mean for the monarchy, you ask?
Either way, they still get an incredible king or an incredible queen.
So what’s all the fuss about? Sure, Smalls might have been ruler first, but Emma’s ruler now, right?
Perhaps…or not…
Here it is, loyal subjects of the Heir of Jupiter: your chance to debate whether Smalls or Emma is a better monarch to the rabbits!
It is a little disappointing in my view that, so far as we know, the rabbits have never had a ruling Queen. Sure, Lillie and Lady Glen and Heather are awesome, but they’re all royal consorts. Might be nice if a doe of royal blood could have had a shot, though I know Emma didn’t want it.
This came up as a related post lol and having read EE, I definitely think Smalls is my favorite ruler. Don't get me wrong, Emma's strength really shone in EE to me, especially in spite of her reluctance to take on her role as queen; I just like Smalls better as a ruler. I will take into account that we didn't have a chance to see Smalls as ruler more than Emma, but I still feel this way. Smalls has all the qualities it takes, including a humble desire to rule. He doesn't shy away from the role. :)
(Imagined dialouge between Smalls and Emma)
Smalls: Tag, you’re monarch!
Emma: Tag, you’re-
Smalls: No tagbacks!
Emma: No fair!
The fact that Smalls might not be ready (now or ever) to be king is a new one, and one that I am liking more and more the more i think about it.
Imagine if Smalls is, perhaps, a chronic invalid the rest of his days, and is unable to
be king. Imagine the struggles Heather goes through. Imagine the conflict! IMAGINE THE PLLLLOT!
What about a solution that no one has proposed?
what if Smalls and Emma rule together?
#Smallsforever
Here's what I'm thinking, if Smalls has indeed survived his little cave adventure it is not likely he will be in good health and jumping up and down with his sword like "LeTs DeStRoY MoRbIn!!" Likely, he will need a lot of time to heal and get better. Depending on his injuries (already made a post about this, so not going to go into detail) it could take a year or longer. Or maybe just a month. Maybe less. Either way, he will need to be physically and mentally fit enough to make the best decisions for Natalia. I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up taking the throne later if Emma wanted to give it to him after he has healed, but it seems unlikely that that would happen right away. Also, keep in mind that neither sibling wants the throne. I'm expecting that Smalls will eventually take the throne, though. Just my opinion, however. Feel free to dispute it. :)
Yes, welcome Rachel.
Yeah, definitely Smalls. Emma's great but she even admits that she's not the best leader. She's kind and sweet, a little bit too much so for my liking. She also doesn't want to be Queen and sees it as more of a duty. I would prefer someone like Smalls who is more passionate about leading. I am a little bit worried about the condition of his self-esteem though, like you guys said. Heather will never allow him to back down, though.
I'm going to say it outright: Heather's fallen for him hard!
AND I LOVE IT!!!!
Thanks for backing me up.
Emma doesn't seem like the right and strong justice filled leader that Natalia needs right now, as of bk 3 we know that they are broken and hopeless. Smalls is strong but weak, Wrathful but kind, and loved and hated, a king among slaves, a servant of nobles.
A father of children.
No contest; Smalls. Emma doesn't even want to be queen.
Smalls definitely. I would be so mad if Emma becomes queen(No offense to anyone.) Now that I think of it, I don't really like Emma.
