In the beginning, Heather and Picket's father tells them about King Jupiter's glory and his death. I would love to discuss about his death and Smalls supposedly death. I think King Jupiter should have died. His death builds the story up. It adds more suspense and excitement to the story. Everyone knows that King Jupiter gave the green ember to someone, but no one knows who. But at the end of the first book, you find out who. It's Smalls! I totally think King Jupiter should have given it to Smalls. He would be a great king. On the other hand, what if he gave it to his older brother. He probably would have given it to Morbin. Now, about Small's supposedly death. It says in the book, that Uncle Wilfred saw Smalls get run through by the birds. But it also says he couldn't get there in time because he was too far away. What if he thinks that's what happened, but what if Smalls just got knocked out. Looks can be deceiving. And in the cave, Heather put her ear on his heart, and a few seconds later her eyes grew wide. Why? Probably because she could hear his heart beat. In my opinion, I think Smalls should be alive.

true, the rabbits did invade natalia from the golden coast. but they wanted to be peaceful, and the birds waged war. sooo...
ever think of that
What if who we think are the "bad guys" are actually good.
And how did Heather end up in the pit where Smalls was, anyway? Was that stabbing another necessary illusion caused by Garten so that he could take her (and her medical bag, and the Green Ember!) to the prince? It seems a bit more than coincidence, in my opinion. Which raises another question: could Garten be a turncoat to Morbin, and secretly want to be on the good side? My thoughts.
Thank you so much. It is has given me hope that he is alive.
Love this theory!
Thank you.
That's a really good theory! I never thought about the possibility of illusions caused in the midst of battle, or even their positions while Smalls was carried off. Very good!
