Umm, probably the Blackstar of Kingston, might be a little bias though, it just because that is the first GE book we read! So it's remained close to our hearts!
One of my friends has that as his favorite prequel too!!! I can't say for sure because I've only read them once and have only halfway finished the Wreck and Rise :(( I have to get it from the library again. My sister loved it but "absolutely adored" the Black Star of Kingston. :))
