I don’t know about the the recording does soften the sound of the fife, which is loud and shrill (hence we people think I play the piccolo). If I had better recording devices (I used my computer) you would be able to tell. There is a reason militaries used the fife.
The instrument is a fife, key of Bb. Fifes are related to flutes as both function the same way. It’s interesting that you thought it was a flute most times I practiced in college people thought it was a piccolo. Though the recording does make it sound quieter then it is.
Wassailing is a very old tradition, related to caroling. The difference is that in wassailing you go to orchards and sing to the apple trees to wake them up and scare away bad spirits. This would take place in January.
Oh wow- it sounds so cheery!! I should try playing these on flute... guaranteed it wont sound as good tho 😂
It's not showing me the link... 😖

Thanks for sharing this - it's so good! What instrument is it? Flute? Also, I hadn't heard of Here We Come A-Wassailing, but it's such a fun tune!
