They walked back to the inn, Will’s eyes still felt crusty and wet but other than that he felt fine.

He had talked to Leeli the whole time and she was great, she knew how to make him laugh, and she was a great friend, he could tell her anything.

She said she lived on a farm nearby, and as a child, she slipped and fell and broke her foot. But it had never healed correctly, she had two older brothers that were named Janner and Tink and they lived with their granddad and mom. They sounded amazing too Will.

Callum was outside talking to Courtney, the grey doe turned to Will and waved, he waved back, but he saw Callum’s unhappy face and immediately stopped, Callum stalked forward.

Like a wild cat stalking his prey he circled poor Will eyeing him, then his face changed from dirty too clean when he saw Leeli.

“Lee! My dear however art thou?”

Leeli rolled her eyes at Callum’s playful mockery, this is when Will realized they might be courting each other, Will shifted from one leg to the other awkwardly, to think he had taken a liking to the doe, of course she was taken! Oh her beautiful long ears arched forward and quivered as Callum threw his hand over her shoulder.

“Is this punk bothering you?” Callum said his tone was playful enough but his eyes were dark.

“No, Cal,” She slid out of his grasp, “Be nice to him! He is new around here! You had no right to be so harsh!”

Callum shrugged, “It’s just a name.”

“Names are powerful Cal.” Leeli warned.

“She speaks truth Callum.”

Courtney was the one to speak.

Callum looked at his older sister quizzically, “Um, what?”

Courtney narrowed her eyes, and for the first time, Will got a good look at her, her eyes were different colors, the right side of her mouth was twisted and lopsided, like she had broken her jaw and it never healed correctly and her fur was twisted and knotted like she never kept clean.

But under that, was a doe with a kind and beautiful heart.

He knew, because after some squabbles they were walking together to this park Leeli kept talking about, Stacey had joined up with them and was on Will’s right, Leeli on his left, with Callum and Courtney on the far side of the group, Will wanted to stay far away from these guys, but Leeli, with her soothing smile, wooed Will and Stacey into coming.

Stacey was muttering and growling like he didn't want to be here, and Callum was doing the same, Will was taking in the winter scenery while Courtney and Leeli were giggling.

The trees and grass had faded to brown, but some lively green hedges lined the large park, a spring that widened into the pond lily pads dotted through it like green paint splattered onto a grey canvas. Benches lined the sidewalk and rabbit hustled by in their everyday lives, a few rabbits endured the cold non-forgiving stone benches and sat, while others paced the area, in reality the park was empty.

A itty bitty doe sat on the nearest bench, her black fur tussled in the crisp wind, her coat was much too big and engulfed most of her body, she had a clipboard cradled in her arms, her warm breath broke through the barrier of cold around her face. On her head was a black hat with dried sunflowers weaved into it.

When Courtney saw her, she waved.

“Hey Sunny!” Courtney came over and hugged the tiny rabbit, the doe named Sunny hugged her back then got up and half hugged Callum and waved and hugged Leeli, Will smiled and waved at the new rabbit.

“Hi,i am Will, and this is Stacey, uh. Stacey?” Will asked, his friend was staring at rabbit and Will noticed he was blushing, Stacey fumbled with his words then said something like:

“Hi Stacey, I am Sunny!” then he scolded himself and looked away.

Sunny only giggled.

“So what are you doing?” Leeli asked.

“Work,” smiled Sunny.

“More? You are going to hurt yourself.” Callum sounded genuinely worried for the doe that was smaller than him, Will realized she was older than him, she was probably of age.

“I love my work, how dare you insult it!” she spoke as if her job was more important than sleep.

“What is your work?” Stacey pried.

“I am a librarian!” Sunny said proudly, “Well, I work at the library, I am really just an intern, getting some money for writing school together. I plan to write a book! One that is worthy of the scribe of the cause herself!” she sat down again and muttered, “It’s really just wishful thinking though.”

Stacey brightened and said, “I am sure you can do it!” Sunny looked up at him and smiled.

“I am sure as well, I love meeting young does with dreams such as mine.”

Will whirled at the sound of the voice, it was a white doe in rich clothes, her blue eyes like a calm sky waiting for a blizzard. His aunt smiled so warmly he swore she could’ve brought back summer right then and there.
