Scream after scream vibrated up and down all around, but it was my scream and my papa’s. I turned and tossed with tears flooding from my eyes to kiss the soft reddish fur on my cheeks. Two large Terralian soldiers tightly held my arms on either side pulling me.

My legs dragging in the deep, bitter cold snow. My feet tingling with numbness as they dragged me away. It is horrible. Tears freely running out from inside me and loud screams escaping my lungs. My whole body aches like I am going to fall apart if I keep this up, but right now it was the only thing I knew to do. I was scared. So scared. Scared that they were going to do to me exactly what they did to my papa.

They killed him. I couldn't even bear that word, kill. It was an awful, awful word. A word that shouldn't even be used. I closed my eyes and let the events of mere moments before wash over me.

My papa was running towards me with tears dripping down from his long dark fur. “Emberlei!” he screamed out.

“Papa!” I yelled out with as much strength as I could muster as I fought hard against my two captors.

“Emberlei, listen to me, my dear, I am...” but papa didn’t get to finish as a Terralain Soldier came out of nowhere and struck papa hard across the jaw. He spun to the ground completely motionless.

I felt my eyes widen in rage as anger grew in me. “Papa, no!” screamed as loud as I could then roughly turned my left arm trying to break free from these two large rabbits that held me. Finally I lashed out with my elbow and struck one of them in the stomach. He fell to his knees in the deep snow gasping for air. The other rabbit that still held me pulled me face-to-face with him until I was staring into his dark, evil eyes. He smiled maliciously at me before slamming me hard to the ground.

I lay there for a while as all the air left my lungs. Pain shot everywhere through me. I looked up at the rabbit with a hard glare and noticed that the other one had already recovered. I felt my heart fiercely racing against my chest. Terror.

They were both looking straight at me with nasty glares but they never came towards me like I expected. It might be the only opportunity I had so I quickly got to my feet, wincing from all the pain that shot through me. Then I made a run for it towards the limp form of my papa.

When I got there, I collapsed to my knees beside him and gently laid his head into my lap. I gasped thinking he was dead but his chest faintly rose and fell. His cold hand embraced mine and he gave it a gentle squeeze. I looked down at him with fresh tears starting in my eyes.

“Papa please don't die, I need you in this world! I can't do it without you!”

“I'm sorry,” he gave me one of those smiles that a father would to his daughter. Then spoke with a great quiver in his voice, “I want you to know, I love you, my girl. I love you more than you would ever know. I need you to do one thing for me I need to be…” but Papa never got to finish his sentence before he slipped away from our world into darkness and death.

I sobbed and I felt my whole body shiver. Then I heard a rough a voice speaking, “That’s what happens when you don't come with me when I ask. First it was your mother and now it was your father, come on Emberlei before someone else gets hurt. Listen to me girl and do as I ask that way nobody else will get hurt.”

I looked up and stared into the face of the one buck I hated most in this world. Bleston. I took a deep, trembling breath before speaking with a quiver. “I will never go with you ever, I would rather die here with my papa.”

“Did you listen to any of your selfish words?” I followed his every movement as he knelt down beside me and lifted my chin up so that I made eye contact with him. “I’ll tell you one thing, you certainly are a brave one, but I'll tell you something else you have a fear. Yes girl, a fear,” he said.

I clenched my teeth and balled my fist. “Yes, yes, I am brave, braver than you will ever be.” That being said I jerked my head away from him and jumped to my feet.

Two Terralian guards grabbed me on either side. Bleston stood and gave me a hard stare then said, “Take her away, I'll deal with her later.”

I snapped back to the cold reality of now as the Terralian palace loomed before us. And I was scared.
