Sorry I haven't posted in a while, I've been in a bit of a writers block lol
Enjoy!
Rhys exhaled slowly before letting his feet touch the ground lightly. He glanced down the rows of bunk beds, searching for Vell. A figure shifted on the bunk next to him and he froze, holding his breath. Silence. He strutted quickly over to the last bunks in the row and knelt next to the bed. Vell stirred as Rhys tapped his shoulder, mumbling under his breath. “Vell.” Rhys hissed, causing the small buck to shoot to his feet, his eyes wide and a grimace on his face. “What?” he growled back, causing Rhys to flinch slightly. “You told me to wake you up when it was night fall, you said you wanted to look at the stars again.”
“Oh yah, I had forgotten about that…” Vell said sheepishly, grabbing a thin blanket from his bed and tromping over to the door on the other side of the bunkhouse. He opened it and started up the creaking stairs, trying his hardest to step slowly. Rhys followed, remembering he didn’t bring a blanket he turned to go back, but changed his mind and continued up the stairs. They opened the hatch at the top with a loud thud, but they didn’t even flinch. One night Rhys had been unable to sleep so he had gone to the roof, only to find Vell there. At first it had been awkward between the two but over the next few nights they became good friends. They had stopped coming up for a while when one night Ben had caught them and called them nerds for studying the stars. Vell hadn’t been affected by it, but Rhys had been offended and had stopped coming onto the roof as much. Eventually Vell had invited Rhys up again and now they would hang up there often. “You know, that doe, what’s her name… uh, Dawn? She was pretty.” Vell said, sitting heavily on the edge, letting his feet swing back and forth. Rhys shrugged, shocked, Vell didn’t normally speak of the does. Rhys himself didn’t see anything special about her but if Vell did he would be supportive. “Where’s the hunter?” Rhys asked, breaking the awkward silence between himself and his friend. Vell twisted around and pointed in the direction of the hatch. “It’s up there.” Rhys nodded, smiling softly at the warrior placed strategically in the night sky. “Some day I’m going to be like that hero.” Rhys whispered softly, “I’m going to fight in war and save so many rabbits.”
“You can’t.” Vell said, his voice flat and emotionless. “We’re stuck here, we have no way out.” He looked at his hands, fiddling with his rag of a blanket. Rhys sighed, acknowledging that Vell was correct. Suddenly Vell’s head shot up and he gasped, spinning to face Rhys. “We could leave! We could run away!” His amber eyes were alight with ambition, and his white fur shone in the moon light, giving him a dangerous gleam. Rhys chuckled softly, rolling his eyes. “Vell, there's no way out. We wouldn’t be able to bring the gang, plus even if we could none of them are stealthy.” Vell smirked, “That’s why we won’t bring them.”
“What?”
“We don’t need to bring them. Look, just hear me out. We could do something so that they could get away but only me and you would know what was happening.” Rhys closed his mouth which had fallen open at the very thought. “What would we-”
“I don’t know what we would do.” Vell interrupted, coughing slightly as he grabbed a twig and started dragging it through the dirt in random lines. “But we could start a fire, wait, no thats stupid, your good at lighting fire’s they would know it was you. We could make a bomb, but we don’t know how. Plus we’re the only ones smart enough to do that. Wait, but a fire might work! Because we have to fake our deaths or they will know we ran. BUT! I bet if we got Ranoth involved he could just kill the guards for us, but then he would get killed, plus he’s annoying and we wouldn’t want him with us. We would need food and wat- oh and some knives in- hmmm… I wonder if- but Ben could- no, just us, well actually,” He broke off and glanced at Rhys who was raising an eyebrow, “I’m ranting again aren’t I.” Vell grimaced, Rhys nodded, “Okay, yah, me and you could escape but what would we do? We don’t know how to survive in the woods.” Vell slapped a hand to his head, “Bro we compete every day, we would be fine. Now which do you think would work better? Bomb or fire?” Rhys grabbed the stick from Vell and knelt next to the dust, tracing a small design. “Well the fire would be easier but a bomb would cause a bigger distraction. We would need hydrogen peroxide and Isopropyl acetone, methyl ethyl ketone, and n-methyl-pyrrolidone. Those should be in the chemical cabinet that the wolves guard over there, and a wax shell should work just fine. We would just need a candle and some sort of oven to heat it up.”
“We could use Ben’s helmet that he never uses, the titanium that I’m pretty sure it’s made of won’t melt easily and we would need a mold to put it in. “
“We could just get gloves to handle the heat.” Rhys added, finishing his diagram and looking at it from a different angle. Vell leaned forward and gave Rhys a thumbs up in approval of the design.
“So we’re really doing this?” Vell asked, blowing on it slowly so the evidence would disappear. Rhys breathed out, letting the moist air suction to his nose before saying with as much defiance as he could, “I guess we are.”
That was really cool!!!!!!!!!!!! Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!! Can't wait till they escape and yes agree with @Saraina not sure about Vell want to like him but not sure.....
You describe everything so well! Please let Dawn come, at least!
I LOVED that!!!!! And I LOVE Rhys!!!!! You describe everything so... vividly, evocatively, realistically, that it makes me feel like I'm right there! By the way, I don't want to say exactly what it was, but I feel like a bit of foreshadowing was going on in this chapter... I'm getting nervous!!!
Wow. That was amazing! I can't believe I'm leaving. Can I bring Kat, Amy, and Dawn? Dawn and Vell would be cute.
