Rissy
Caspian threw himself out of bed as the orange-reddish flames grew ever so high and the heat and smoke were almost unbearable to take as it began to burn his lungs, making them feel like they were set on fire. The house was starting to burn down turning to ashes in front of him. Caspian covered his head with his shirt as he coughed so hard that his lungs clenched in a spasm of pain.
He looked around the room that was caught in massive flames that crackled and grew so high they touched the ceiling. He's squinted his eyes so that he could see through the thick clouds of smoke which swirled about the room like some kind of fairytale mist. Only this was no fairytale this was real, as real as can be. Like when his parents died in a fire, along with his sister. It reminded him of today when his brother died.
Tears stung Caspian's eyes as he thought about the ways that he had lost everyone and how it was always, always his fault. Why, why, why? Oh, why was he so weak? Why couldn't he do anything right? If Kent was here he would know what to do and know how to get everyone out and away, that way no one would get hurt, but Kent wasn't here. He was gone. Gone, gone, gone, gone.
The word echoed through Caspian's mind as a stream of tears fell from his face making the room one big blur. Caspian knew that he had to pull himself together but he wanted to stay here in the room and die, the way his parents and sister had. He didn't want to see the world anymore, the only thing that was keeping him from doing that was that there were good rabbits in this home. Rabbits that seemed, in a way, to care about him. They cared about each other and he knew with all of his heart that he couldn't, just couldn't let them die.
Caspian controlled his tears and started to get some of his vision back. He would have it completely back if it wasn't for the large amounts of smoke that seemed to wrap around him. He scanned the room for any sign of his battleax. A small smile came to his lips as his eyes rested on the battleax not too far away and easy to get to if he stayed away from the walls.
Caspian put his shirt over his mouth to keep the smoke away as he made his way over to the battleax which laid on the floor. His eyes burned and watered something fierce. His lungs ached and begged for him to stop as he coughed. Caspian heard a lot of cracking noises and looked up in time to see a falling beam coming straight for his arm. It was aflame with wild, orange fire as it swung down. He looked back and forth as it came for him. He looked to his left where his battleax lay on the floor. Caspian did the only thing he could think of. He jumped out of the way from the flaming beam falling hard to the floor near his battleax.
Pain shot up and down, spreading through his body as he reached a hand out to grab the strap to his battlax. He wrapped his fingers tightly around the strap as he pulled it towards him. He then quickly got to his feet, wincing from the pain that vibrated through him.
Caspian swung the battleax over his shoulder and started making his way quickly but carefully out of the room, making sure that he wouldn't get caught on fire or worse. He tried to keep as far from the walls as he possibly could but at this rate, it was hard as the fire began to get even worse and beams began to fall everywhere, causing more fire. Thick clouds of smoke made him cough as he reached a hand towards the door to open it. He swung it open to see more fire and more smoke swirling through the hall.
Caspian made his way down the hall and he could feel the heat from the fire reflecting on his face. Sweat clung and dripped from his fur and clothes. He froze as he heard a loud call of someone's name. His heart raced against his chest it was so loud that he could hear it thumping up and down. It was does calling for another doe.
"Maraly!"
One thing went through Caspian's mind as he heard the call, not again, no not again. Please Maker, please, please, please, not again. Caspian started running down the hall forgetting for the moment that the house was on fire. That wasn't important right now. The only thing that was important was to save whoever the doe was, along with all the rest.
As he bolted through the hall of fire and smoke, eyes watering and lungs burning so hard from all the running. He found it difficult to catch a breath but he pressed himself to keep going. The only thing he needed was to get to the does in time.
Caspian stopped at the door of the does room, gasping and wheezing for breath which he couldn't get back into his lungs. He needed fresh air but there was none. He kicked the door open and when he did his eyes widened at what was revealed. The doe, Maraly, he assumed was on the floor, one arm clutched to her chest with blood streaming down it. But that wasn't all. Above her was a falling, flaming beam. It was coming straight for her head.
Caspian's heart started pounding against his chest as he thought. The does yelled out again. He then threw his body in the way of the doe and the falling, flaming beam.
