Echo was running. His feet tore sod from the ground and his breath came out in ragged pants. He paused in the shelter of a grove of trees to catch his breath. He was regretful that he would have to leave his Great Grandma without a goodbye, but he would be free.
Echo started running again, fear driving him on. He soon came in sight of the gate. His heart sank. Three enormous bucks were filling in the gate. Echo took the risk.
He bolted, leaping over the bricks. But as he was about to safely land, he was hit by a rain of arrows. He winced as the Black Band captured him. Back to the dungeons.
……….5 minutes later………..
Echo came to his senses in a cold, dark place. A cell in the dungeon. He shivered, wrapping his tattered cloak around his shoulders. He heard a low moan from next to him.
Echo turned. A tattered buck about his age with orange-brown fur lay weakly on the ground. The buck was obviosly in the Black Band. Echo crouched next to him.
“I’m Echo Dreft.” Echo whispered. “I’m going to help you, though I’m mad at you.”
Echo bandaged the buck’s wounds, but he could see the rabbit had internal injuries as well.
“Your going to die, aren’t you?” Echo asked. “Like all the rabbits you killed.”
“I… have’nt… killed.. any.. buck.. yet… but… Daggler’s.. on… my.. list..” The buck wheezed. Echo gasped, then placed his cloak over the rabbit as a blanket.
“Who are you?” He asked.
“Kiowa… Longtreader..” He said, “Son… of… Wilfred… Longtreader…”
“I’m Echo Dreft. My parents were killed and all I got left is my great grandma and her apothecary shop.”
“I’m.. sorry.. to.. hear that.” Kiowa said.
“We have to get you to Great Grandma’s!” Echo said.
“I thought every ..one hated me.” Kiowa said.
“I do. But I’m going to give you another chance.”
“Why? I’m nephew of Garten Longtreader, why would you help me?”
“you are Wilfred’s son, not Garten’s.” Echo said, helping Kiowa up.
“How do we g\et out?” Kiowa asked.
“I- I don’t know.”
Silence descended as the two bucks looked around.
“Nothing in this one.” They heard. Both bucks froze and backed up to thewall.
“Whit, please.” A rabbit begged.
“No. I’m sorry.”
They heard a loud noise of slapping.
“Hey?” Whit asked.
“Whit?”
“I- what am I doing here?”
“Whit!” The bucks froze as they heard the gate unlocked.
“Anyone here?” Whit asked.
“Here.” Kiowa grunted.
“Kiowa?” Whit asked.
“Aye.”
“Let’s get you out of here!” The second buck said.
“How?” Echo asked.
“I have a plan.” Whit whispered.
