“Here’s some,” Emma said, pulling it off the table next to her. She and Heather tore the paper into pieces and handed a piece to each person.
“I think it would be nice if everyone wrote their own name down,” Heather explained. “Besides, then no one has to worry about correctly spelling someone else’s name.”
“But, if you can’t spell your own name, we can’t help you with that,” Emma added, chuckling.
“Hmm…” Jo said, pretending to overthink. “How do you spell Jo?”
Heather chuckled and Emma just shook her head. Bailey, on the other hand, cracked up, having to set her pen down before she scribbled all over her piece of paper.
“Do we just write our name?” Jo asked, having remembered how to spell his name. He was now doodling on the paper.
“I think so,” Picket answered, “but you may want to write a couple things you would like. We should just ask Caleb once he gets back.”
“Ask me what?” Caleb asked, standing behind them, decked out in Victorian garb.
Bailey jumped. “Please don’t do that,” she said, turning to face him, “You know how easily I get spooked.” She looked at his outfit. “Where did you get that?”
“Mrs. Weaver insisted on making it for me,” Caleb explained. “I’m not sure why though. I didn’t say anything about it. I do like it though, I have to admit.” He paused. “She did mention something about someone else wanting one.”
“That’s really nice of her,” Heather said. “Did she tell you who the other person was?”
“No,” Caleb admitted, “but I am curious.” He paused. “Was it any of you?”
“No,” they all said, except Bailey.
“Did you?” Caleb turned to ask Bailey, but she was no longer sitting in the chair.
“I wonder where she went,” Picket said.
A couple of minutes later, Bailey came back, dressed in a Christmas dress in the Victorian style. Everyone just stared at her for a second.
“That is beautiful!” Heather said, jumping up to look at it.
“Absolutely gorgeous!” Emma agreed, following Heather. “I would love to have one of my own.” The two of them walked around Bailey, admiring the dress.
Picket rolled his eyes. “Does get way too excited about a dress.”
“It is pretty,” Perk said, shrugging. “They just get too wrapped up in it.” Picket punched him in the shoulder.
Mrs. Weaver walked over, having seen Bailey and Caleb in their Victorian outfits. “You both look so nice in your outfits.”
“Thank you,” Bailey said, blushing slightly.
“Thank you, ma’am,” Caleb replied. He went to sit down, then he paused and turned back towards Mrs. Weaver. “Excuse me, but why did you decide to make me one and no one else?”
Mrs. Weaver waved her hand, dismissing the question. “I didn’t just make it for you two, I just wanted to wait until you two were wearing it to give it to the rest of you.”
“We get one!” Emma and Heather squealed in unison, jumping up and down. “Thank you!”
The bucks glanced at each other, some less excited than others. “Thank you, Mrs. Weaver,” Cole said, bowing slightly.
“I just need to grab them,” Mrs. Weaver said. “Would you bucks mind helping?”
“Of course ma’am,” Cole said, jumping up to help.
“I wouldn’t mind,” Caleb agreed, walking over to Mrs. Weaver. The other three glanced at each other.
“Come on,” Cole said, waving for them to get up. They got up and followed Mrs. Weaver back to her porch. The girls met them in the hallway near their rooms, excited to try on the dresses.
“Thank you, good sir,” Emma said, accepting a dress from Cole and going to her room to change. He nodded.
“Thank you, too,” Heather agreed, grabbing a dress from Caleb and quickly running into her room to change.
“You’re welcome,” Caleb answered.
Cole went into his room to change as well, while the other three bucks stood there. When he came back out, Cole said, “Go get changed. We are all going to be Victorian, whether you like it or not!” They mumbled disgruntedly but went to get changed.
Heather and Emma came out, spinning in their dresses. “You two look great!” Bailey said. They all linked hands and skipped around in a circle.
The bucks came out of their rooms. Jo was smiling, and Picket and Perk smiled as well.
“I have to say, these are very comfortable,” Picket said, looking down his coat sleeve.
“That’s true,” Jo agreed.
“I’m glad you like them,” Mrs. Weaver said, stepping out of her room in her own dress. “Bucks, time to act like gentlemen. It’ll be good for you,” she added when she saw their expressions.
Jo put out his arm for Emma, who graciously accepted. Picket did the same for Heather, and Caleb did so for Bailey.
“Lovebirds,” Picket joked, before being punched in the arm by Heather. “It was a joke,” Picket said. He extended his arm again.
“Sure it was,” Heather replied, taking it again.
Perk quickly did a headcount. “There are five bucks, but only four does,” he said. “What are we supposed to do?”
“Aren’t you forgetting someone?” Hyena asked, stepping around the corner.
“Where have you been all morning?” Cole asked, having not seen her since the night before.
“I was helping prepare the hot chocolate and cider,” Hyena explained. “We just finished up a couple of minutes ago.”
“Well thank you,” Perk said. “They were delicious.”
“They?” Hyena asked, raising an eyebrow.
“He had three,” Jo explained.
“That makes sense,” Hyena said, “I’m glad you enjoyed it.”
Cole extended his arm for his sister, and she accepted it.
Perk offered his arm to Mrs. Weaver. “Now we are ready to go,” she said. “Come on.”
I really am enjoying writing this. Thanks @Dragon Girl for the idea! As I was writing, I realized there were too many bucks compared to the does. I was trying to remember another girl, and then I realized I had forgotten about Hyena. Whoops! But then it worked out really well, once I figured out where she was doing. Also, Victorian outfits! I hope you like it! Merry Christmas!
