Marisa smiled at the anxiously waiting Richard. He glanced around frantically, yet subtly looking for her. He had agreed to pick her up from work but when she had entered the lobby he wasn’t there. She had looked around the whole hospital until another nurse said he was outside. They hadn’t seen each other in a couple days, and she had missed him the whole time. She ran up to him and he grinned at her. “Hey!” he called and she smirked at him. She collided with giving him a kiss. They broke apart and he laughed, bringing her into a huge bear hug. “Richard.” she gasped after a moment. “huh.”
“You're suffocating me!”
“Oh! Sorry.” he said sheepishly, letting her go quickly. “It's okay.” she reassured him and his frown turned to a smile again. They linked arms and he began to lead her to a small cafe. “Why weren't you in the lobby?” she asked him as they sat at a small table. His face turned dark a moment, that only happened when he was remembering something dark or she was complaining about Fritz. “Dont.” she commanded as he stood, mumbling something about the restroom. “Sit down and tell me please?” he grumbled under his breath, though she knew he was only trying to avoid the conversation. “Do you not like blood or something?” she asked him, only to receive a shake of his head. “Fine. don't tell me.” she said, crossing her arms, and sticking out her bottom lip. He sighed. “Fine. are you sure you want to hear?” she thought about it. Chances are she didn’t. It was probably something dark or sad but she would do anything for him. He was her star and as he said, she was his queen. She nodded and he looked up at her, his face torn in grief. “Before I came here I was on the run. On the run with a band of rabbits. They had found me in the woods after I had run away with my sisters to get away from my abusive parents.” she gasped in horror. And he raised his eyebrows, silencing her. “They were kind to us and I decided that's all we needed. My one sister was younger than me by one year, so your age. And my other was much older than me, she had been a mother figure to us while our own were cruel. I wanted to protect them more than my sanity, so when the band of rabbits became sketchy I stayed, because they gave us food. My sisters would have followed me anywhere. Then my older sister got sick. Another rabbit pretended to be her husband so that we could get her to a hospital.” he broke off, choking on his words. He cleared his throat and she placed a hand on his arm, motioning that he could continue. “And then- we were told that her illness was deadly. We couldn’t find a cure. There was no way she would survive. No one with it could, so me and my younger sister were told to leave, so that we wouldn’t catch it. My younger sister refused, throwing tantrums every time I tried to take her away. She was some-” he broke off as a waitress walked up to them. She smiled at him but he glared at her. “Just tea for me.” He said, an edge to his voice. “I’ll take a blueberry smoothie, no bananas and non fat peach made yogurt with two cherry pastries and a small pack of sugar for his tea please.” the doe nodded and hurried away. “Anyways. She was something.” Richard continued. “She began to get sick also. They were both going to die. I stayed with them for as long as I could until I could get it to. Die with my sisters. But my immune system was too strong, well theirs were weak. One night they told me to get some rest at a hotel and I did. I woke up and-” The waitress was back with their tray of food. She set it in front of them and Richard handed her a few coins before continuing. “And the other rabbit, George I think, told me they were dead. They died in their sleep. I ran away again. I couldn’t survive without them, I wanted to kill myself so I could join them. But I couldn't. I was too weak. I told myself I would never love anyone again, until I met you.” Marisa blushed as he smiled at her, even though he was remembering the horrors of his past. “I miss them everyday. But there is nothing I can do to save them now. I can only let myself love you because you told me yourself that you didn’t want to do adventures. That you wanted to settle down. Hospitals scare me because it reminds me of how horrible I was to leave. It reminds me of all the horrible thoughts of killing myself. And I don't want to do that now because I love you. And I will never love anyone besides you and my sisters.”
