Later that day Alan was moved to the burrow where David and the other bucks that had escaped from First Warren were staying. His leg still hurt but at least he was out of the hospital. Though he wasn’t allowed to get out of bed, which was fine with him because his leg hurt too much for him to want to walk on it. So, he lay there, David and the other older bucks had gone to get something to eat.

It turned out that many of the bucks had brought younger brothers or just younger bucks with them. These younger bucks where now running around the room screaming and squealing at each other. Alan couldn’t hear himself think as the young bucks ran around his bed. He hoped David and the other bucks would get back soon, but until then he would have to put up with this.

The young bucks ran all around the room, jumping on beds and screaming at each other. Best he could tell it seemed that they were playing tag inside. Alan had never played tag before or any game really but he was pretty sure it was played outside not inside. But then he heard one of the bucks call a name that caught his attention.

“Zeke!”

Zeke, Zeke, he had heard that name before but where. Then it came to him, he pulled a small necklace from his pocket. Yes Zeke, he had found him now he could give him the necklace. Alan looked around the room again before saying, “Which one of you are Zeke?”

All the bucks stopped what they were doing and Alan watched with dread as the smallest buck in the room looked up and said, “I am. I’m Zeke, Why?”

Alan sighed then motioned him over and said, “Come I have something that’s yours.”

Zeke walked over. “What is it? Are ya tricking me?” Zeke asked his eyebrows raised.

Alan shook his head, “No, here this is yours, I think it was your brother’s.”

Zeke took the necklace and looked at it then said, “It is. This is Zan’s. Momma gave it to him.” Tears came to Zeke’s eyes, “Oh thank you, thank you, thank you!” He said as he threw his arms around Alan’s neck.

Alan was shocked. He didn’t know what to do, he hadn’t been hugged in such a long time, it felt so good and somehow he felt at peace, he felt safe.

He hugged Zeke back and said under his breath, “No thank you Zeke, thank you.”
