So maybe I just missed it, but who is the Pilgrim? It seems that in the end of Ember's End people know who he is, but we never find out. He is EXTREMELY old.
Who knows, maybe it's Flint!!!Blackstare!!!Reepicheep!!!...ok scratch that last one.
it has got to be masssie, for four reasons. One, hes an old, very experienced archer, and so IS massie. Two, he says helmer is reminds him of an old freind, who is likely brindle "helmer" cove, who is helmers ancester and namesake. three, the pilgrim would have to have started his journey many many many years ago to have traveled back across the sea to golden coast, then make the very long trek back to blue moss hills, THEN back across the standing stones to imovable mountail, where he colected rocks from the fallen star to make his arrows. four, i can barely think of any other person from the prequals that served the king loyaly, was an archer, and isnt gavin cuz gavin is a white rabbit.
@Stella Mae that was indeed Gavin. He fired off an arrow at what turned out to be King Whitson, only for it to be intercepted by Fleck. Guilt-ridden and treated none too kindly by Galt, he fled into the Low Bleaks. After a few weeks of isolation, in which he apparently became acquainted with the Preylords, he went a bit crazy.
However, after being rediscovered by the rest of Black Star Company, he began to regain his sanity. He got Lander off the Lillie, shortly before it blew up, and remained in Kingston with Fleck.
I theorize that "Prince Lander and the Dragon War" will reveal a LOT about all this when it comes out. Possibly even the whole story about the pilgrim, even though S. D. Smith mentioned that he is seriously considering writing a story about the Pilgrim... if he is Massie, it would be a continuation of his story, taking place maybe after "Prince Lander and the Dragon War" which logically (and chronologically) would be the next Tale of Old Natalia.
I would propose that the Pilgrim would be that Harlan Seer, who went off in search of True Blue with the full backing of King Jupiter, and "never came back". I mean, he has the seeds of True Blue, so I would argue that Harlan Seer succeeded in finding it, and used it to keep himself alive for a much extended period of time, but by the time he returned, the afterterrors were going on, and he fell in with a fleeing Lady Glen.
@Samuel Livingston that possibility had occurred to me as well. However, Lady Glen indicates that the Pilgrim is someone King Jupiter never met, whereas he was acquainted with Harlen Seer-the guy was one of his Lord Captains. Moreover, Helmer would have recognized Harlen, but only gets a vague sense of familiarity from the Pilgrim. The Pilgrim, for his part, also notes that he’d never met Helmer before.
Ah, yes, the Pilgrim. The character whose identity the rest of the characters know at the end but they never say. @Kilmarnock228 proposed that he may be Massie Burnson, given his skill at archery and the fact that he calls Helmer "Helmer there" in the way King Whitson calls Brindle Cove in Wreck and Rise. Helmer is confused at this, and the Pilgrim says Helmer reminds him of "an old friend." While there are technically other possibilities for who he could be, I think that given the limited hints we have, Kilmarnock's theory seems very likely.
@Ian G. nice of you to say so. If I recall the scene correctly, Helmer actually asks if he and the Pilgrim have met, and it's in response to this question that the Pilgrim makes the "Helmer there" and "you remind of an old friend" comments.
I figure we'll most like find out in Prince Lander and the Dragon War.
also, i wuld like to see the jourlals of massie burnson be turned into a book, instead of just being in the prolouge of all the prequals

don't I wish it was Reepicheep :(

#iusedtothinkhewasharlanseerlol
Yep
I propose Massie!
G A L T or F L I N T. Period. That's all I have to say. (I know this thing is dead, but I don't care xD)
That is interesting...
or it might be from the Greek Leander, meaning Lion-Man. but of course this makes no sense, and Lander might be the pilgrim.
We already know S.D. Smith likes names. for example, Helmer meaning "Warrior's Wrath."
I used to think it was Harlan Seer, until I read this page: https://thegreenember.fandom.com/wiki/Tomb_of_Lander%27s_Dragons
stating that the name Lander means pilgrim in Basque. Now of course that may be wrong...

#massie
it has to be! I spent some time with The Pilgrim during the battle for all Natalia, and it fits.
Totally think the Pilgrim is Massie, about to creat a post for another reason why he might be...
I think @Kilmarnock228 has a very possible theory (Massie Burnson) so I think I'll have to go with that.
