So I've come to a conclusion regarding the presence of she-wolves and Ladies of Prey in the Green Ember series: they are present, but it's just not noted. Either they're in the battles, and Picket and co. only run into the guys, or they're not able to tell males and females apart (seems particularly likely with the birds).

If nothing else, I would say that the females of both the wolves and Preylords must have joined in the Siege of First Warren, as we're calling the final battle over on the Green Ember Wiki. I mean, Flint's Sword broke, and they called Morbin "Lastfoe". Seems misleading if there are still birds and wolves in the world. Plus, even if they are heartless bloodthirsty predators, the idea of all the female predators just eventually dying out is pretty depressing.
