Was thinking recently about the prospect of a prequel book/series focusing on the fallen king, and I had a thought. It seems pretty typical for rabbits to give each other nicknames, unless their names are already so short that they have nothing to work with. Now, Jupiter isn’t all that long, but Helmer and Picket got called Helm and Pick by family and close friends. As such, I imagine Jupiter would also have received some sort of affectionate appellation.
Now, personally, I can’t imagine anyone wanting to go by “Jupe”. As such, I think there are two possibilities. Jupiter may well have been alternatively known as Jove, especially since his children bore the surname Joveson. Or, it could be that Jupiter was his “ruling name”, which Ember Falls implied an heir could choose upon becoming king. As such, he may well have been named something other than Jupiter at one point, in which case there’s no way of knowing what folks may have called him for short.
Oooh that's a really neat idea!
Oo I like that!
That's a nice thought...we're thinking if Jupiter was his name he may have been called Jupie or Jupe...you don't really get to choose your nicknames, plus he was a cute little guy at one point and nicknames usually start when your young....
We have nicknames, like shortenings of our given names, where our brother Matthew has the nickname Baggs, you may ask why?
Well, one of us couldn't say his name when we were little so we called him Maggue, which the youngest of us said as Baggue, and our other brother shortened to Baggs...Matt didn't choose to be called Baggs, he just is...
So, we think it likely that Jupiter would have been called Jupie or Jupe if Jupiter was his given name. Siblings and parents, also close childhood friends, are often the people who start the nicknames....
Whatcha think? That's just us....we're southern everyone has a nickname, or multiple nicknames....and if you're name is too short for a nickname you get dubbed another name, word, thing, or phrase for a nickname...that's just how it rolls down here....hahaha
wow. awesome theory! what if... that is so cool idea!
